fox still can't make an in game adjustment btw

one of the many stones to throw at fox through the years is his teams rarely make in game adjustments. today it was painfully obvious that the eagles adjusted to the panthers running attack after their first drive. they started flooding the A gaps and plaid the cut back lanes a lot harder. in the first drive deangelo was out the back door with ease. after that everything was cut off.

there are many ways you can adjust to this. you can run power tosses, end around reverses, have running backs drop out, run a TE on an in, etc

WHAT DID WE DO?

run into the run blitz, run into the run blitz, pass.

I have said that for many years.. Fox goes in with a game plan. He will continue to execute it regardless of whats going on in the game. This can be a blessing at times, but it's also a nightmare to watch when its not working.

We need to trash the last two gameplans and stick to the running game. I don't care what you do, run the damn ball! Dives, pitches, sweeps, reverses, the works.

What I don't get is where all the passes to the tightend were? In the preseason it seemed like we threw to the tightend every other pass. Today Jeff King had to short catches. With as many people they blitzed on a given play it would seem that the tightends would be wide open over the middle. Maybe they kept them in to block, I don't remember. I'm having that game surgically removed from my memory in the morning.

I agree that we need to open up the playbook more and adjust to what the opponents are doing. Running the ball heavily is fine, just not the same predictable plays when the D is obviously ready for them.

One change that did work was when we went no huddle. It kept the Eagles base D on the field and helped neutralize the blitz. The drive only bogged down after they were able to make substitutions.

I also noticed we tried using screen plays as a way to burn Philly when they blitzed but the execution was just too horrible to make it effective.

Ahhhh, you have answered your own question my friend. It was preseason, and we were not showing our game plan. That was just all smoke and mirrors. (Not that it worked for us then either).

Why is it that when we blitz, the other team kills our D w/the screen, when they blitz, our O doesn't use the screen, our QBs just give them gift wrapped balls?Must be Christmas already, there are several gifts under the tree for our Eagle friends!

    • He’s been every bit as much of the problem as anyone else. You cant remove him from that fact, he is just as much part of the team and in THE most important position on the field. But this is the first season he’s seen any kind of continuity in his team and coaches. And he’s shown flashes here and there. But we do need more out of him going forward a lot more if we are going to be successful
    • Bryce isn’t great and super mid. But I think can be a game manager. What do we think is out there? Daniel Jones isn’t going anywher. Mac Jones? Zach Wilson? Pickett. I’m just not sure what’s out there that is much better without having to give up a ton of capital. Rather take one more step closer to contention with our early rounders next year with FS and LB help. Make this  place where dang they got a defense and a WR1 and solid RB room. I can win with that and want to be here
    • AR15 is if Justin Fields was fragile and his teammates hated him. No thanks. Ya'll think you hate watching Bryce Young? Wait until your QB can't even complete a 7 yard pass over the middle, which Fields and Richardson can't do. If the draft class was better, I could absolutely see the Titans moving on from Ward already if they got the #1 pick. But so far the college QB's haven't impressed enough. They'll have flashes, but then follow it up with a very meh game. Kyler is already done in Arizona, but he has a ridiculous contract and he's basically Bryce that likes to scramble, so no thanks. If Lawrence can't produce with that team in Jacksonville, what do you think he'll do here? He's tall Bryce who can throw deep but can't make the 4th down throws and crumbles in the red zone. No thanks. I do think Canales wants to move on from Bryce, his body language says so even in wins. He treated Bryce pretty odd this week and Bryce looked checked out in the Packers game. But unless they make another risky trade, its going to be slim pickings. Basically our hopes lie in hitting early in the draft with a Mateer, Nussmeier, Beck type or finding a random backup free agent that has another gear to hit.  I think even with the draft being wishy washy, 4-5 QB's will be taken in the top 7. A lot of teams are just that desperate.
