One year ago today. I'll never forget the sick, horrified feeling I had as I sat down for my lunch break and looked at Twitter. I wish I had taken my break just an hour or two later, because by then the good news had been confirmed and we knew he had come out of it with very minimal injuries. But I went to lunch literally RIGHT after it happened, so everything I read at first was just crazy rumors. Both his legs are broken, he's in critical condition... crap like that which left me absolutely sick to my stomach. I couldn't have given two craps about football at that moment. I love Cam so much and it just sickened me to read all of those things... especially when none of them were confirmed and we had no clue how he was doing. I still kept close tabs on the situation even after going back to work because I was so rattled... and I could finally feel a lot better when I read news from Jonathan Jones, who was the first trusted source of news I'd read all afternoon. It was good to see his tweets after reading all the scary unconfirmed rumors. He was going to be alright... thank goodness. And then, 12 days later... there Cam was, back on the field and playing. I can't believe how incredibly lucky he was. Like he said himself... you look at pictures of his truck after the accident, and it doesn't add up that he came out of it with such minor injuries. But I'm so thankful he did... we all are. That day will live in infamy for those of us that love this wonderful leader of our wonderful team.

Did any of you read the news right after it happened like I did? Where were you all when it happened? I'm interested to hear if any of you had to live that afternoon the way that I did.

I was at home but watched twitter & the internet all day long. When I finally saw his big grin in the video I knew he'd be okay.

Very good article about being in a car crash:

Let's leave the talk about Cam being a leader at the door. He was a leader before the accident and is a leader now, a few years of maturity to go from age 22 to 26 helped him grow as a leader, not a car accident.

Instead, let's understand why he has so much fun on the field, and why the car accident did nothing but accentuate the traits he already possessed.

And another good one: http://www.charlottemagazine.com/Charlotte-Magazine/December-2015/Cam-Newton-Didnt-Change-After-His-Accident-Everything-Else-Did/

I’ve been covering Newton since he came to the Carolinas, and the truth is, he had already grown into a leadership role well before his truck rolled.

...

"This is the same person that people critiqued and analyzed when I first came into this league and used to sulk under the towel," Newton said. "It's the same person. Nothing's pretty much changed; it's just we're winning.
