In that case first you want to get on the Amtrak West out of Charlotte. That's it, it'll be fun.

I live in Raleigh, have a car, and still prefer the train. Comfortable even when sold out, Wi-Fi works well, and really isn't much slower than driving. Faster if there's traffic. Take the train and don't second guess it.

Trust me take the train, it takes at least 2 and half hours to drive on a good day and the train takes around 3 hours.

1) The Marriott is a very nice hotel, you won't be disappointed.

2) You're less than a 10 minute walk from the stadium (just a handful of blocks).

3) Traffic really is non-existent in and around Charlotte, other than a few hours of rush hour during the week.  (the traffic to and from the game directly around the stadium is bad, but at the Marriott, you'll see barely anything.) 

4) Get back into Charlotte Saturday night, grab some good BBQ, and walk over to the Roaring Riot tailgating. 

5) If you're sitting in the uppers, bring some chap stick...it can get windy.

I would say definitely get to the stadium around 10 AM. It's gonna be a poo show regardless because of playoff game. But it will at least give you enough time to find parking, get settled and get to the tailgate without rushing.
