Prove you're worth it

A bit of Gettleman philosophy learned from the great Bill Walsh, screenshotted by Voth on his Twitter...

Helps to understand why he prefers 1-2 year deals for free agents.  Basically, it's 'prove you're worthy of staying longer'.

On the flipside, it displays patience with draft picks.  Nobody's gonna be kicked out the door for one bad play or one bad game.

Earning something before you get it? That's weird, you're weird.

The nature of free agent deals is such that you're being paid for how good you've been somewhere else with the assumption that you're going to be good here too.

I think Gettleman wants to know you'll be good here first.

    • What people fail to understand is Lance had a college career that lasted about as long as teenage boys first intercourse.  To say he was raw was an understatement.  So much so that even a QB whisperer had a difficult time molding him into a polished NFL product on top of multiple nagging injuries.  The dud is in his mid-twenties, finally healthy and little miles on the tread.  Low risk, high reward.  If he's available, it would be stupid not to kick the tires.  It took Darnold and Mayfield to hit their 3rd or 4th team for things to finally click.  This is Lance's 3rd stop, I believe.  It's either time for it to click for him or be relegated to a full time backup. Roll the dice....
    • Wrong.  At least we put a QB sneak in the play book and and add plays over 20 yards.
    • I don’t know if people realize that Evan’s was one of the top TE prospects in college  before having some horrible injuries. I wanna say he had two major injuries in back to back seasons which limited his play and dropped his draft stock.
