Destiny: Rise of Iron

Well, I'm still playing, though infrequently due to moving very soon.  Today was the reveal stream for the latest expansion for Destiny called the Rise of Iron.  Quickly:

  • $30 USD
  • New Crucible Mode, several maps
  • New RAID!!!
  • New Story, quests and cut scenes
  • New Area - The Plaguelands
  • New Social Area - Felwinter's Peak
  • New Enemies - Mutated Fallen - they got freaky with a techno-disease
  • You get to become an Iron Lord!!!
  • Oh, and G-Horn is returning!  Pre-Order to get it in black, otherwise there is a quest for it.  I'm not sure what shape the G-Horn will be in though if it's going to be given to everyone like that....I'm going to play with it tonight again!

So I'm super excited for it!   I still enjoy the game in spurts.  It's not a game that I can play for days on end anymore (and I think that's OK), but for a little bit, it's still super fun.  Needless to say, I can't wait!

Anyone else going to jump in with me?

i'm still playing destiny.  Enjoying it as well.  I've been making sure to do the weekly Challenge in POE as well as a King's Fall raid once a week.  Looking forward to this DLC.  Not a fan of the new armor shown for the titan class.  I believe that gear was a play on the new enemies.

I think each class wore example armour.  Like the Titan is raid, the hunter was trials, and the warlock was iron banner.

I hope I have enough time this week to do in for a helm.  I've mostly stayed away becuase I was doing other stuff than PvP, but I'm starting suck way less.

I've never played destiny,  I was gonna go pick it up today. Is there still a decent community for the noob's to start from the beginning?

If on Xbox 1 I'll help you out anytime

Ps4 thanks though.  I played for a little while yesterday.  Seems like all the early game stuff You can solo.

Actually, you can solo most of the game. It's not until you start doing strikes that you need teammates.  Once you hit 40, you'll do a lot of those.

I'd also suggest you get into the PvP. It will help your gun game big time! I had so much fun this past week in iron banner. Almost to rank 5, but there is next time. If you don't get mad at the PvP, it can be fun.

Hey bought the Destiny: Digital Collectors edition yesterday and I'm really lost, I used the jump to level 25 token thinking I'd just play the game at level 25 but really confused at the moment and suggestions or help for a newbie?? thanks!

is there a dedicated story mode? and did I skip it accidentally by using the lvl 25 token?

Welcome!

So there is a story mode. The missions are planet based.  You can check quest log to find out what's next.  You'll go from earth, to the moon, to Venus and to Mars.  That's vanilla.  Then The Dark Below quests start with Eris Morn. The House of Wolves with Petra Venge in the reef.  Then the Taken King starts off on Phobos.

You can play any of the missions in any order at 25.  You'll have to do the main story first (don't quote me, I have finished with my warlock yet).

You can hope into the Crucible. I don't know how familiar you are with FPS games, but Destiny is a different beast in some regards. Just try to have fun.  Year one, I swore off Crucible becuase of the Thorn quest... ugh!

The short version: enjoy the game, do read the grimoire, and don't stress too much.  You can worry about stuff at level 40. Like iron banner, trials, raids and stuff.  I'd recommend that you do the planetary strikes before you leave each planet.  They are fun.

I hope this helps!  Please look me up if you're on Xbox one, Dionysusfiend!

Oh Doc, the destiny app is fairly useful.  But be very careful of the forums...toxic...like worse than the Tinderbox!

well went from level 28 to 38 today, just getting off now, main quest, the darkness below and the taken king all completed today.  Its a decent bit of fun, tho but finding players is hard

    • I can't get behind a purely subjective re-draft as a method of defining "top-10 QB" status. That invites bias based on vibes/hypotheticals and can ignore actual on-field performance. You and others have said that Bryce has to be a top-10 QB to justify the pick. That's a high bar, which I'm not against, but we need a clear, consistent way to measure it. When I bring up metrics that Bryce has registered in the top-10 in like BTT%, P2S ratio, catchable deep ball rate, etc... they're waved off as either irrelevant or the expected baseline performance. Meanwhile, volume stats like passing yards or win-loss records, both of which depend heavily on roster talent, health, and coaching, are treated as definitive. That's where the inconsistency kicks in. If no performance metric ever counts in his favor and the answer is always going to be "he should be doing that," then we're not evaluating him... we're just holding him to a curve he can't win against. If this is really about performance standards, then let's define them. But if it's just about confirming prior takes based on height and weight, then let's call it what is it and stop pretending that this is a football analysis discussion.
    • Just to be clear: I'm not "downplaying" the talent around Bryce... I'm qualifying it. There's a big difference between saying, "we finally have building blocks that we're actually developing" and "we've done enough to say this is a finished product, NO EXCUSES!" It's possible to believe that the 2023 situation was bad and to believe that the current state, while improved, is still incomplete. That's not inconsistency; that's nuance. As for the footwork stuff, again, I've seen the same clips as others. The claim that Bryce is hopping to see over the line just isn't one I've seen corroborated by analysts or tape breakdown. "Both feet off of the ground to throw" happens a ton for QBs (ex: Mahomes, Rodgers, Purdy, etc.), especially when improvising. You're right that there were some encouraging flashes from Bryce last season, and it's nice to finally hear that after so much time was spent pretending otherwise. I'm not arguing that Bryce is elite, I'm just asking that we evaluate him using consistent, measurable criteria to determine his status as a top-10 QB... whether it's via 3rd down %, red zone efficiency, turnover-worthy plays, or yes, big-time throws (which, by the way, has been a valid part of QB evaluation across the league for years even if it wasn't used here during Kyle Allen or Teddy Bridgewater's years. For reference: Allen had 20 BTT at a 3.9% rate. Teddy had 17 BTT at 3.3%). Like you, I'm hoping to see a competent, entertaining offense this season. That's a baseline we can all root for, even if we don't have the same baseline for what makes a QB top-10 (which, to be fair, is what this conversation has been about... though I respect the attempt to reframe it).
    • I am optimistic that we might be on the verge of fielding a sustainable offense finally. The Bryce stats listed above are definitely encouraging. I don’t want to overly inflate this and disregard the previous 1 and a half seasons of production from Bryce and “cherry pick” stats but do hope the benching turns into an inflection point in his trajectory.      Lots of excitement heading into this season.
