Cowher To Carolina Talk Heating Up

Terry Bradshaw: Jake Delhomme's demise greasing Bill Cowher's path to Carolina

Fox broadcaster Terry Bradshaw said today that if Carolina QB Jake Delhomme doesn't improve, both he and head coach John Fox will be out of jobs and former Steelers coach Bill Cowher could be at the helm of the Panthers.

Delhomme was benched in Week 1 after throwing four interceptions and losing a fumble. That gave him a two-game total of 11 turnovers dating to a playoff loss to Arizona in January.

Bradshaw echoed comments by former Steelers RB Jerome Bettis that Fox's future is tied to Delhomme's progress.

"If Delhomme plays another lousy game with those kinds of turnovers, look for John Fox's career with the Panthers to be over," he said during Fox NFL Sunday.

"Bill Cowher desperately wants to get back in the NFL. Cowher will go down to Carolina."

Cowher told USA TODAY in August that he was happy working as a TV analyst for CBS and considered his coaching prospects "year-to-year."

Fellow Fox analyst Jimmy Johnson said the Panthers' season could go downhill quickly if Delhomme struggles. They did not add a viable quarterback in the offseason after giving Delhomme, 34, a five-year contract extension.

"John Fox better hope that Delhomme is back," Johnson said. "He's got no other option. They signed A.J Feeley - he's a journeyman backup that can't play so he has to live and die with Delhomme." -- Sean Leahy

old news and IMO, I wouldn't want Cowher. Took him 15 years to get a SB. IS that what you want or do you want someone that wers his emotions on his sleeve?

I really wish we could have brought Dom Capers back as DC and switched back to a 3-4 like we had with Kevin Greene and Lamar Lathon. Salt and Pepper!!!!

Bradshaw said it on the pregame show Sunday. Then jerome Bettis echoed it. both men know him, and know he wants to come back. he keeps saying "if the time was right." "50-50". Every knows he wants to coach in charlotte rather than anywhere else, because he lives in Raliegh and wants to be near his family, its logical. Personally, that is the only reason i would hope we don't make the playoffs. i think the Fox era has run its course.

i understand all that fox has done, but sometimes it is time to move on. Its time. of course we will all be lovey dovey if we win Monday Night. but in the back of our heads, we will pounce on him again after we lose. Odds are against us, nothing matters, I have no point. Screw it!!! go ahead and bash me for my idiotic ranting.

    • With the contract money an OT first rounder makes you can ALWAYS get a new girlfriend.  And probably an upgrade at that.  You only got 2 parents.
    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
