With no salary cap deal in sight and a very likelihood of no playoff berth, chances are the Panthers will have some flexibility to deal in free agency and not have to worry much about what little money they have available.

The injuries at DT hurt, but let's face it, the crop we had to start with wasn't great, the Panthers finished 20th against the run in 2008, Kemo is only valuable as a run stopper and Damione Lewis is average at best, and there's no depth behind either of them. Without the injury to Kemo Louis Leonard wouldn't even be here.

Looking at the free agency DT market, it looks much more deep than last year's. There are a few 3-4 NT's available that have done a great job occupying multiple blockers.

Vince Wilfork-The Pats drafted Ron Brace with their first pick this last draft, so they may be preparing for his departure in advance, since they haven't been able to cut a new deal with him. Of course, the tag is a prime option they'll likely go with, but there's still that chance he can be available.

Here are some other possible options to work with....

Tony Brown (Tennessee)-Played with us, we let him go, started elsewhere.

Barry Cofield (New York Giants)

Casey Hampton (Steelers)

Travis Johnson (Houston)

yes because Kansas City, New Orleans, Arizona, Tampa Bay, Chicago and San Diego were all average or worse running the ball.

Yep, Not to mention historically the later in the season the more successful teams run the ball. They also tend to run the ball more because of inclement weather (not as true as it once was but still).

You can't predict anything in an uncapped year. The requirement for free agency goes from 4 to 6, teams will essientially get two franchise tags, and there will be restrictions on spending. I like the guys we have on the roster Leonard could play a big role next season, Sunny Harris is young, Irvin has potential, and Lewis and Hayden are stalwarts who are still here. Injuries always improve depth due to necessity, I think thats definitely the case here, we were forced to improve the depth and it will pay off this year and next. Now if only a certain QB could get injured....JUST KIDDING!

      In a lot of ways it makes sense to just draft a tackle early so they have flexibility with icky's injury and Motons not getting younger. I'd love for them to resign BC cause to me he looks pretty good anywhere they put him

      Rods the one who needs to go if they don't win a cup soon, Overall I like the way Tulsky operates, do i wish he had pivoted to several smaller moves instead of going all in on a big acquisition? Obviously.   But RBA is the one I'm locked onto, he is too stuck in his ways and if if "his way" can't get somthing done he just triples down and proves his insanity by trying the same stupid crap over and over, the facebook casuals will be like but but but 8 years in a row making the playoffs.... yes we'll guess what we should have at least a cup to show for it, yes only one team wins every year but this year will be the 8th consecutive year making the playoffs.... heck none of us even get excited about that and haven't in four years minimum.  Our top guys are nearing the peak of their prime the time is now, but the canes seem content to stand pat and "make the playoffs" anther 5-8 years in a row.
