Not really wondering why the NFL is lackin'?  Look at who they have on TV on the sports and entertainment network.  If I were the league I would mandate a complete reboot of the ESPN way of doing things in regards to the NFL.  Just tonight you got a bunch of has beens on the TV.  Even Randy Moss is a Joke that never won shite.  Not even Steve Young's bitchazz is out there. All you get out of their analysis is that constant sarcastic laughter like these clowns have been eating mushrooms and smoking bud since noon-time.  The only SB winner on the show is prolly the worst SB winning QB in history.  Why would even a football laymen take these azzhats even a quarter way serious?  They sound fuging stoned. Their catch phrase, "c'mon man" was "in" 5+ years ago.

And then we wonder why NFL ratings are down 10+% across the board.

There are very, very few good broadcast guys left as well.

All the good ones are bing replaced with former players or Jimmy Shush-Ups who will quietly play the politics game and oblige network requests to discuss the same topics over and over.

If they were smart they'd start throwing money at some of the SEC radio guys but those definitely don't fit the above mold they want so bad.

It legit makes me want to get high watching the ESPN dudes do their fake laughing stock of a pre-game, post game, etc.  I will give them credit.  Chucky knows his football, but at the same time I couldn't ever wish for Mike Tirico to be back more than I do now.  The Big 10 guy (i think that's what he was doing previously) they have calling games right now is simply pathetic for a program that is primetime and supposed to be hanging on to multiple millions of viewers per Monday.  I know the Panthers/Bucs game was a chore to watch, but that guy didn't do anything to help that fact.

I don't absolutely know that the NFL is lacking (granted, ratings are down).

My thing is after the roller coaster last season was, I'm frankly still kinda burnt out on it all.

The way this season has started off for us isn't helping (obviously) but frankly, I have my own personal "Super Bowl Hangover".

I actually think the play by play guy is a big improvement. Its Gruden I have a hard time taking seriously.

ratings are as low as they have been in 10 years.  it's not just us.  i spent most of last season out of panther's tv market and was more enthused to watch football even living in south florida where the dolphins got major air time.

Granted, ratings are down big time and obviously there's a reason.

But with that said,  I can't say with absolute certainty that the overall quality of football being played is down.

I've definitely seen some crap games (Cardinals - Seahawks was a steaming pile of dog s--t) but I've seen some great ones too, same as every year.

i'm not arguing the football quality is down.  i'm arguing the beavis and butthead style of covering the game is getting old.  espn covers the game like you have had to of had CTE in order to appreciate the sport.  you ever seen mark schlerth defend "the shield" before?.

How was that a crap game? I can understand how some kid wanting a 48-45 outcome would think a 6-6 tie would suck but that was some very good football by both of those teams' defenses. Yes there were some ridiculous mistakes by the kickers in OT that don't belong at the highest level of the game, but that to me doesn't make it a crap game. I thought that was one of the best games of the season.

Incredibly shoddy officiating followed by the NFL never owning uo to said shoddy officiating has a lot to do with it IMO. The focus on who's kneeling and who's standing for the anthem is really off-putting too. Who gives a fug? Don't like it, don't give them attention for doing it because that's exactly what they want - attention. Announcing has been awful forever. God love him, but Madden's last few years were fuging brutal.

IMO, the biggest driver is the shoddy officiating and overwhelming arrogance of Goodell and the NFL to think that they can cook up some type of hilariously bad excuse for every obvious bad call their officiating crews make. Everyone understands that refs are human and officiating will never he perfect. Officiating errors aren't the only thing missing people off. It's not even the main thing. It's the NFL thinking they're above criticism and arrogantly believing they can bury every ref mistake made.

    • With the contract money an OT first rounder makes you can ALWAYS get a new girlfriend.  And probably an upgrade at that.  You only got 2 parents.
    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
