Can someone explain to me why Fozzy is not his 1st or 2nd read?

I have seen this time and time again. The drags or flats is wide open and Cam never looks their way resulting in a sack, incomplete pass into coverage, or a fumble.

The goal should be to get the ball out quick and keep the chains / ball moving forward.

For God sakes make them take away the short easy stuff. Then that will open up the deeper routes.

To me this is just football 101.

So much potential being wasted with Cam imo.

He needs a real OC.

Because he's thworking safety valve and can be used at the qbs discretion.

We did use the quickerror passing game http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000732379/article/panthers-short-game-swarming-d-lead-to-big-win

Cam Newton sack.

Fozzy Whitaker wide open in the flat for a big gainer. Cam doesn't see it. Lots of pressure coming from the right. Missed opportunity.

Id need to see this from the endzone and in motion before I'm willing to call Fozzy wide open.

Short pass to a short dude with the entire defensive front between them. Even looks like cam would have to throw right at the un/minimally blocked defender to get it to Foz. There is no obvious window to throw through that gets the ball their completely safely, and if he lobs it to the sideline there is no guarantee the two defenders cant cover the ground.

Looks good from this angle but you cant really tell what Cam was actually seeing.

You are missing my point.

The flats, drags, slants, and stick routes should be Cam's FIRST read on nearly every passing play.

Should be automatic / second nature by now. Look for the quick easy stuff. Force the defense to shade underneath, then when they do that the mid and long range stuff will open up.

This is why evaluating a play or potentially missed opportunity through one still frame when the game moves in an instant is pretty pointless overall.

They should be his first read. The fact he isn't recognizing  it,  isn't due to the OC or playcalling  but his own lack of execution and knowing who is going to be open based on the defense.

Not buying this at all.

There is no "knowing" who is going to be open. Or atleast that shouldn't be your mindset. Good DC's are gonna disguise their D presnap.

You still have to make the same reads regardless. Flats, short, mid, deep, etc. 1st - Low / Short / Quick 2nd - Mid / Medium 3rd - Deep / High

It's the OC's job to train, teach and get the QB to make the right reads and progressions.

This poo should be second nature by now. He isn't no spring chicken.

Then you clearly have a limited knowledge of how quarterbacks read defenses and call audibles as well as move defenders with their eyes and motion to manipulate defenses into favorable match ups or to,determine what coverage they are in presnap. The OC and more specifically the quarterback coach works with the quarterback all week in preparation and then throughout the game to make adjustments. Why do you think that we suddenly started throwing short and underneath after the first few series? The same route trees were there as before which calls for short, intermediate and long routes but instead Cam was throwing earlier and quicker to negate the rush. And the concept to get the ball out quicker wasn't something they suddenly came up just like they used Ginn more on out routes and crossing routes more than long flys and post routes. That was all planned earlier. But when Cam reverted back to his normal tendencies, Dorsey reminded him of the game plan and Cam made the adjustments. Players tends to revert to old learned patterns especially under pressure. The OCs job is to help him see what is going on and make adjustments given a quarterback has a much different perspective than a coach watching who can see things from the box. Which is why they use the camera views and tablets to show the quarterback in real time what the OC is seeing. Shula has taught Cam well and Cam is a smart player who has the ability to see and translate it onto the field.  The fact that he reverts back to old habits is common for all athletes not an indictment of Shula or him.
