This Guy Should be the Pick at #8

Cam needs playmakers. Olsen is a playmaker, but he is on the wrong side of 30. Kelvin is inconsistent. We don't know what we have in Devin. Ginn is nearing the end and isn't a complete receiver. We need THE guy Cam can turn to over the next decade.

This kid is an athletic freak, has overcome serious adversity, and has the determination and work ethic to be great. We need Corey Davis.

Look at the Patriots WR group, they dont have elite talent, its all about coaching, i dont want our team soending a top ten pick on WR, whatsmore KB and Funchess are serviceable.

It works for the Patriots because of the system they run. Matt Cassel, Jimmy Garropolo, etc. have all had success in this system. They are no Tom Brady but they proved they could win and play well within the scheme. Brady has simply mastered the scheme. Our scheme is different. Longer route developments, route combinations, QB reads, vertical instead of horizontal. Like Peyton Manning. He needed weapons to make his scheme work. He ALWAYS had weapons to throw to. It was simply a different approach. Serviceable won't win us a championship. We need dynamic playmakers to get over the hump. I would argue that our defense is more focused on system and offense more focused on players. So therefore, we need to go get players.

Only relocation to London would be worse.  A disappointing beyond words season resulting in a top 8 pick for what is supposed to be a physical team by becoming the Lions and drafting a WR early three of four years, and one from Western Michigan at that.  Might actually prefer the relocation to London news than Corey Davis at 8.

Talk about dramatic. Kelvin was drafted in the late 1st. Devin in the 2nd. Prior to that, the highest wide receiver selection was Brandon Lafell in the 3rd round. The Lions drafted a top 10 receiver 3 years in a row. HUGE difference. And if you would prefer relocation to London over the selection of a dynamic wideout, you need a lobotomy.

Of course there's some exaggeration and sarcasm.  But also truth that that's not our identity nor the value at 8 that multiple others will be.

Yea, I linked this video in another thread about this guy.  I completely agree.  You just see the level of maturity that this guy has already.  A lot of players come out every year with outstanding athletic ability (like Corey Davis), but the one's who succeed are the one's with the mental drive and pursuit.

It would feel odd spending another really high pick on a receiver in such a short time but depending on who is gone by the time we pick he would be tempting.

In a lot of ways it would almost feel like we are already giving up on KB or Funchess which is unfortunate based on where we drafted them.

I wouldnt have a problem with this pick. This offense desperately needs some speed and explosiveness. Cant continue to ask Cam to throw into extremely tight windows to our current WR's that cant get seperation. There's a reason Ginn was our most productive WR last season. He was the only one that could get seperation to get open.

So lets say no QBs are drafted top 10. Which in all likelihood, there won't be. And Jonathan Allen, Myles Garrett, Jamal Adams, Leonard Fournette, Marshon Lattimore, and Malik Hooker are all gone. Who are we left with? Reuben Foster (we aren't taking a WLB top 10), Mike Williams (Solid. But not much different than the guys we already have). Derek Barnett (slow twitch DE from the SEC? Color me concerned), or Corey Davis. Make no mistake, we are still very much a vertical passing team with power running schemes intermixed.

Great player, but DESTROYED weak competition

Fixed this for you.

Need I remind fellow fans what colleges Jerry Rice, Antonio Brown, etc. have come from? This kid was from the projects and had poor grades until he moved out of his home and into a more stable environment. He was never a legitimate consideration for a Division I power school.

    • I used to think Juan was a Zod alt. Agree he's a great poster.
    • Hawks said nah we good and sent him to the shadow realm aka the Wizards. Cold blooded. I mean they're 2-2 in a series with a young up and coming Knicks team largely through 34 year old CJ McCollum. Even if they ultimately lose the series at least they are there and have something to build on. I think Hornets fans are just beaten down and lack the objectivity to assess the situation. They think we are going to get so much worse if and when we finally change gears. Worse how? We've already been a lottery team for years now. We've already been looking to win our first playoff series in about a quarter century. We already can't get past the play in and in failing to do so we have completely embarrassed ourselves twice looking like we don't even belong. Honestly there is absolutely no excuse for a team like the Magic to be more competitive and successful than us in the playoffs. Absolutely disgusting. But that's just me. I was fuging lit when we got the Hornets back in Charlotte but that is old old news. It's time for these boys to get into a playoff series. Enough is enough. If they can't do it for 2026-27 then they need to make wholesale changes regardless.
    • Not one single pick that is asking me why we drafted a guy in the first place. It was a guy we needed and/or a guy that had certain traits making them stand out. Best of all, I feel everyone we drafted are capable of stepping onto the field this year and have a meaningful role (even Kuwatch on special teams). Obviously, nothing is guaranteed but I'm not seeing any huge flags on guys because they're risky projects or massive overreaches.
