Well compared to 2016  https://www.google.com/amp/s/charlotteobserver.relaymedia.com/amp/sports/nfl/carolina-panthers/nfl-blog/article94035257.html it's already better overall.

All of last years rookies should benefit from the experience of last year. That being said here's my thoughts.

Secondary has been improved greatly. With Coleman and Boston both back where they belong and the additions of Cap and Adams the secondary looks light years better.

Linebackers took a small step back due to Klein leaving but that's ok in the grand scheme of things.

DE- 2nd most improved group on the field. Addison seeing more snaps, Ealy seeing 0 and the addition of Peppers bolsters this unit.

DT- Possible addition by subtraction here. Top 3 remain the same but Soliai is gone. I don't think Crume played at all last year so a bit of an unknown.

On offsense we took a step back.

QB- wash

HB- small step back. Not because of Tolbert but Stewart is a now a year older and any reasonable person would expect declined play to some degree.

OL- Hard to Gauge. At this time last year we didn't have the benefit of knowing injuries would wreak havoc on this unit. I'd expect Kalil to be about a wash vs what we expected out of Oher last year. Maybe  better but his career can't justify that statement yet. RT is about a wash. Williams couldn't beat out Remmers for the starting job so we will have to wait and see if he takes a step forward this year.

WR- A slight downgrade in terms of proven production. A possible upgrade in terms of potential. Last years enthusiasm on Funchess had been tempered a bit.

TE- Wash, or if you subscribe to the old saying "if you aren't getting better you are getting worse". Could actually make that statement about HB too.

Knowing we still have good draft capital to boost the talent on the team and enough cap room to add some more depth I feel much more optimistic than last year.

Nice work. I think we are going heavy on offense this year. You can clearly see that we need more talent on offense. This will not be lost on Gettleman

Comfortable?  Nah, I worry about the age.  Old Players break down at some point.  That said, My comfort is 100% dependent on the draft.  We need a 3 down DE, a young groom-able SS, and someone who has decent hands and good speed on offense.  If we attack this in the draft, I will say that I'm comfortable.

WRs are still trash.

not sure what your evidence for that is. yes, funchess and benjamin had down years. but both should be back to form, and Shepard and Johnson were both intriguing role players on their previous teams. draft another WR and our corps is set.

I see Johnson being an upgrade to Ginn...

if ya disagree then so be it. I'm going on gut feelings

and IDC if Shepard is exactly what he was for the bucs. A ST stud is worth the money.

Upgrade to Ginn isn't saying much. He nearly lost us games all by himself in 2015.

We need to start setting the bar higher.
