Former Tennessee RB Jalen Hurd likely to the Supplemental Draft

Nah, didn't look good this year and bailed on his team.

Yeah the bailed on team part is the kicker. Not sure what happened but doesn't pass the smell test.  Very unfortunate because his measurables are off the charts good and he had the potential to be great value in a RB loaded draft.  Jalen Hurd's don't grow on trees physically.

Extra sad because the Supplemental Draft this year puts us in the top 10 of every round lottery while likely picking at the end of every corresponding round in 2018.

Pass, there are plenty of backs that are better.

Don't disagree, but we have multiple needs and the pick would likely be a late 2018 one, allowing us to keep our picks this year.

Haven't really followed his story.

Details?

5 star talent out of high school, dark horse Heisman candidate entering the year, off the charts physical height/weight/speed measurements, bell cow back, good receiver out of the backfield, projected 2nd Round 2017 pick last offseason-had a falling out with teammates and coaches, said he would transfer, didn't, now in no man's land-Supp Draft.

I'd like to know more about the "falling out".

I don't really know his story but If he is talented, why not? It wouldn't be costly. If money doesn't convince him to show a little more dedication, then he is out of the league.

He's talented.  Might definitely make for an interesting decision in July if RB is not a value pick with any of our 8 picks.  The stink of him leaving Tennessee is rotten, but from a skill standpoint there'd be huge value for a likely late 2018 pick.

    • I've shown you numerous comps for other tackles in the same age and talent range.  His contract, taking into account his age, health, etc.  is the going rate.  It's a fair deal. I've shown you examples of how long it usually takes to find even an average replacement.  Hell, look at every tackle that has ever started for the Panthers.  How many would you consider a success?  They are not easy to find. After everything we've done with this team since drafting Bryce why would we decide to let our best linemen go and add a huge question mark at tackle?   FA is a crapshoot in which any guy available will have cons/issues.  If not, they'll cost a fortune.   Outside of a first or maybe 2nd round pic next year it'll take a few years for a tackle to learn the position at the NFL level.  There are still questions about Icky. Every vet NFL player deals with maintenance.  Between the contract value and history I'm not overly worried about his knee.  I contend his knee issue isn't anything to be overly worried about.  It's not zero risk but it's an acceptable risk.  Every player we draft and every contract we sign has risk.  You're blowing up his own negative words about his knees and ignoring him saying he is healthy and the knee is a non issue.  You have a strong chicken little complex with this team.  Being he has always been a Panther they are very aware of any health issues. We paid now because now is cheaper.  If his knee was really an issue they would have waited.  That tells me it's not the issue you want it to be.
