Do We Need a Speed WR in this Draft?

I think we do.  Our offense seems to be at its best when we have the deep pass working.  Based on what they did in FA it wouldn't surprise me at all if we did draft someone like Westbrook.  Ross would fit nicely but I'm not sure they want to draft him at 8, and I think he will be gone at 40.  I kind of expect him to go between 10-20.

We need a real deep threat, Westbrook, Ross or Henderson

IDC what Zay Jones ran at the combine his tape has slot receiver written all over it. Cam throws one of the best deep balls in the NFL and this franchise is dumb enough not to use it.

Was that because he couldn't do more or because that is what they asked of him?

I do agree though that I wouldn't draft him with our "speed" guy in mind, but more of a sure handed, possession type of receiver, which Cam could actually use on this team.

Maybe we draft two receivers :)

Didn't ask him? What college team would purposely hold back a guy with big play potential?

Jones is not a deep threat, I wouldn't mind drafting him if we draft a deep threat first.

Yes.

These stats are simply reinforcing the idea that most of us already had. Our WRs aren't getting open for the most part.

I like KB, but the only way he's running a 4.4 is if he runs off the edge of a cliff.

And Funchess? Yeah, that 4.7 at the combine doesn't look all that off.

LOL

A team that has an offense that is built around a short passing attack? A team that has a QB that can't throw deep?

Not an ECU fan so really haven't watched him much at all.  Of the highlight videos I've watched you see a lot of short stuff.

Unless we pick a speed guy at 8 I really don't see us picking Jones after a speed guy later.  Don't really see him lasting to late 2nd.

Theirs a lot of dink and dunk weak arm QBs in college who can still throw it deep given the receiver. Chad Pennington to Moss being one. Browning at UW doesn't have a strong arm Ross still was able to beat people deep.

If comes down to drafting Jones or Westbrook give me Westbrook 10/10 times.

I'd love it if someone could do a compare & contrast post on Corey Davis, Zay Jones, Ross and maybe one or two of the other top WR prospects, ranking them on

  • Speed
  • Route running / separation
  • Hands (catch percentage)
  • Durability
  • Fit in our offense

For me, Ross is off my board (at least in the 1st round) due to his knees / injury risk.  Davis seems promising but it's hard for me to imagine DG going with him at #8.  Seems like one of other players we are likely to have ranked higher (Thomas, Adams, Fournette, Howard) might be available at #8.  Barnett & Lattimore might be above Davis on our Board and have a pretty high chance of being there at #8...

I don't watch much college football at all. (Have enough trouble watching NFL games here in West Africa)  Don't know enough about Zay Jones and any of the other potential round 2 WR prospects....

How do you feel about Byrd?
