QBs

Shocker

Recommended Posts

I know its the last thing we would discuss here but I'd like to hear thoughts...

My top 5:

Mitch -

Watson

Webb

Kizer

BUST:  Mahomes

Sleeper:  Kaaya

And I don't see much difference between Chad Kelly and next yrs golden boy Sam Darnold.  Just don't.

Mahomes is trash. So is Kizer. Great arm talent, no QBing ability. Every Texas Tech QB puts up amazing stats in college.

Watson is a gamer. His sporadic accuracy scares me, but the guy just wins.

Trubisky only having one year of starting experience is a little scary, but his accuracy is unreal. The guy drops dimes.

Watson or Trubisky will be the best of the bunch. Despite his inexperience, I think Trubisky is the safest QB pick of the draft. I could see Watson being another Russell Wilson or another The Golden Calf of Bristol. I kinda think he's boom or bust.

Mahomes and Kizer are damn near guaranteed busts IMO.

Mahomes is quite literally the only guy in this class who may have potential to be a tier 2/1 QB. All the rest are foundational signal callers rather than those standing out.

Too many people fall in love with the big arms. You don't have to have that rocket arm to be an elite NFL QB. Sure, it helps, but it's not a requirement. Peyton Manning, Brees, nor Brady ever had great NFL arms and only one of them was a 1st round pick.

Not just his rocket arm. He has the tools to be real good.

Maybe he's the next Aaron Rodgers. That guy who breaks the mold of coming from a program that grossly inflates college stats and still goes on to have great NFL success (it is worth noting that Cal didn't run the air raid offense during Rodgers' college tenure). But, Texas Tech is even worse than Cal in that regard. Everyone looks like a future HOFer at QB when they're playing at TT. Guys coming out of that air raid offense have a hard time adjusting to the NFL. They've never read a defense pre-snap. They've never led a pre-snap huddle. All they no is go, go, go, hurry, hurry, hurry, 4 and 5 wide sets, get the ball out as quick as possible before the defense knows what hits them. It just doesn't translate to the NFL.

Nick Foles is probably the best NFL QB to date to come out of an air raid style offense and even his success looks like it was likely just a flash in the pan.

Notable busts include:

Tim Couch, Brandon Weeden, Kevin Kolb, Geno Smith, and John Beck. Quite possibly adding Jared Goff to the list soon.

Yeah but I can easily fire back with Roethlisberger, Aaron Rodgers, Andrew Luck, Derrek Carr, and even our own Cam. Arm strength is definitely a big plus in the NFL. Most of the top qb's have strong arms and the rest are at least above average in that regard.

Kaaya is garbage. Sleeper my ass. I wanted to believe in him so much but after we lost to FSU for third time because of his inability to handle the pressure and make the throw, I accepted that Kaaya is at best a back up at the next level.

Trubisky has all the tools and seems like the most accurate QB in this draft class but Watson is just a fugging gamer. I think Watson would benefit from a West Coast/Read Option offense similar to the one The Chiefs employed for Alex Smith. Trubisky, however, has a bigger arm and is more accurate so he has more options. He just better go to a good team who knows how to develop QBs because he sucks at diagnosing at what opposing defenses are throwing at him.

Ok, Kaaya is shat.  I stand corrected.

Glad we dont have to make this decision.  I remember the Matt Moore days.  Ugg.

Or Rodney Peete for that matter...

Watson wins games.

I've mocked him 1 to the browns before and they spat all over it while claiming he couldn't handle the cold weather.

I dunno if he is over Garrett, but he is a winner at the most important position on the field.

    • Well bois, we gave the Devils their due! Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery... The jersey boys have been trying to jack our steeze for a few years now. They've followed our blueprints and studied our tape. Every offseason, they pounce on our sloppy seconds in a Newark minute. Quick with the puck, ferocious on the forecheck and stifling team defense. Down to the colors, this is this closest we'll come to having to play ourselves in Ole Stanley's Hockey Hoedown. As the postseason began, Rod stood flexing in the gym mirror and saw this guy staring back from the void... (Shutters) When beating us at our game didn't work, Timo and the Tri-State Trash tried to tango instead. Outside of a bitchass cheapshot on Freddie, that poo didn't work either. Their goon squad was getting wrecked by our bantam weights. As much as we all wanted to see Svechy or Staal Bunyan literally break someone in half after the Great Dane went down, they didnt need to. Our munchkins were monsters! Jarvis obliterating giants at the blue line, Logan laying the Stank on dudes twice his size and Blakers blasting Timo into next season. It was beautiful to see! (Side note: Does JBlo wear lead weights under his pads? 170lbs shouldn't be able to hit that hard!) We closed it out in 5, for the gentleman's sweep. Only team in the league to win a series in each of the past 7(?) seasons! And, this was supposed to be a rebuilding year... Onto the awards: Key To The Series : 6 for 19 - .316% IT FINALLY WORKED!!! MVP : 16/180 g/s - .911 save% - 2.53 gaa Seriously, without this dude, we would've won in 3! (Trust me bro) 3rd Star : 6/94 g/s - .936 save % - 1.59 gaa The Great Dane   2nd Star : 3 g - 5 a - +1 - 20:38 toi/g - 18 hits - 3 bs - 58.1% fo 3 PP goals and the 2OT series winning goal! WOOAAAHHH NELLY!!!!   And, your 1st Star of the series : 5 g - 1 a - +3 - 16:48 toi/g - 16 hits - 1 bs - 1 tk - 50% fo Zero, I repeat, zero penalty minutes for the series! MISSSTAAAHHH SVEEECHNIKOOOV!!!!!! Onto The Next: Now, we wait for the Habs to make it a nasty 7 game slog, while we recuperate. And, hopefully, get Nikishin, and some of the other black aces some real peactice time. We are gonna need those guys at some point. Because, if you think the Devils were dirty, hoooo boy, wait till you see what's next...
    • I don’t watch college football anymore (used to be Stanford STH but meh), but my wife is Hawaiian and her favorite color is purple, so I guess I knew Tet was my new favorite player to root for when he came out in a purple suit and lei and threw up the Shaka.
