College Records

Some would argue we're doing that with McCaffrey and Samuel.

I disagree.

The team has an offensive "evolution" in mind, and that's why they chose McCaffrey and Samuel. Specifically because they fit what we want this evolution to look like

We're not putting the cart before the horse here.

No, this isn't the same thing.  I don't think the offensive schemes will change much at all. I think the playcalling will change more than the scheme itself.

Most of my complaints haven't involved the playcalling or the scheme so much as the play design.

Take a look at the route combos on a typical Saints play vs one of ours. It's depressing.

There might've been a time when setting college records would've been a major factor in a team drafting a player. To some extent, it still is.

What is different today is having more variables to factor in, especially with stuff like analytics. If we apply the tools we have today to all those prior players whose gaudy college stats didn't translate to the NFL, it might've raised more flags indicating that there's a disconnect between production and in-depth data. Those players would've likely been drafted anyways but their stock would've taken a hit.

Remember when top picks had guaranteed contracts?

50 million for Sam Bradford...Boy did we dodge a bullet.

Newton rookie contract was fully garunteed. It just came after the new rookie wage scale.

Every time I see Timmy B I cringe because Eddie George was still on the board.

Overall stats in College IMO should be gauged on the type of system they ran in college.  Zay Jones broke Hardy's record that is an NCAA record but they came from such a pass happy team (ECU) that their numbers IMO are over inflated.

If a QB or RB had great stats from a Pro style offense I would think their records might mean a bit more but in todays college stats can over value a player.

The recent draft that had Barnett who broke Reggie White's records at Tennessee is a perfect example.  Barnett will never be anywhere near as great as Reggie White.   Reggie's days at Tennessee came from a different era in college football and far more impressive.
