Westworld imo. though for me the first season of True Detective is my favorite single season of a show period. Have had The Wire, Deadwood, and Boardwalk Empire recommended to me as well.

True Detective season one was perfection.  The Wire and Deadwood are both greatness.  Sopranos is an easy one.  Others I liked True Blood and Eastbound and Down if you comedy.. Band of brothers is fuggin killer.. The ole Tales from the crypt are fun stuff too.

in the HBO world..

I loved the Wire.  Love GOT.  Loved Deadwood. Liked Westworld.  Loved True Detective (first season) then it sucked.

I could not get past a couple episodes of Carnival, Sopranos, Oz

Leftovers might suit my taste.  If it is your best all time show then maybe I'll try that one.

I was hooked very early on and it only got better for me.  A lot of people though say that they were not hooked until episode six or seven.

The consensus seems to be that the second season is the best and that both that and season three are far superior to the first.  I personally loved all three seasons and which is best depends on my mood when you ask me, but I probably would go third.

It is only twenty-eight episodes too so it is not like you are getting into a huge commitment.

You should be warned though, parts of it, particularly the first season, can be extremely depressing.

It really comes down to your own personal life experiences and thus your ability to relate to the characters.  I personally connected to the characters on so many different levels.  They were so beautifully written and flawlessly acted that at times they seemed more real than some of the people I know in real life.

Some of that is so cringey.

There are reports out there that HBO has intentionally leaked some false information during the process. So maybe the cringey stuff is fake, lol...

Given past evidence, though, they'll probably include it.

It sounds like Jaime and Bronn got their hands on Littlefinger's teleporter at some point. It seems like they are all over the place in the span of seven episodes.

well, I watched 2 episodes of the Leftovers last night.

I'll try to get over the fact Liv Tyler is in it.
