What Panthers defense needs – experience, confidence, ball skills – Mike Adams brings

I think he is going to fit in here just fine. Sounds like he brings everything you want in a veteran player...including he can still play.

Not many players make it to age 36 in the NFL, and most who do are quarterbacks or kickers. Adams doesn’t mind if you mention how old he is, though.

“I’m proud of my age – because I look damn good,” Adams said. “I’m still as fast as some of these young guys out there. And I’m making plays. It’s not like I’m just out there. I’m productive. I’m a leader.”

How is it that an undrafted free agent from a Division I-AA college is entering his 14th NFL season?

“I take care of my body and do a lot of the things that other people really don’t want to do,” Adams said. “I do yoga twice a week. I see the chiropractor. Cold tub. Hot tub. I don’t pound myself with weights in the offseason. I do push-ups and pull-ups. I do like a ‘Rocky’ workout. I run hills. I’m old-school.”

Great role model for the younger players.

Yeah, I was just getting ready to post this. Just a couple of thoughts. Even though some people hate the term, Adams definitely has some "swag." If his body still cooperates with what his mind wants to do, then perhaps we'll get a couple of great years out of him.  The only reason I am saying "if" is that I know what it feels like to lose some of that physical ability in your mid to late thirties, much less the motivation, and sometimes they play off one another. Not trying to be a Debbie Downer, because I am really optimistic in Adam's case, but he was jettisoned in favor of younger talent by the Colts. And, no disrespect to Tom Sorenson, but it seems like I remember Adams shutting people down about his age in his first presser.  So, yeah, he's proud of his age and what he's been able to achieve this late in his career, but he'd prefer that you rather focus on his tape than his age.

The times that I've seen him play over the last couple of years, it doesn't seem like he's lost his legs to me.

With Roman Harper, he still had it all upstairs but, while he was with the Panthers, his legs were done (sadly).

Now being an old guy myself, I know well that you eventually reach that time in your life where one year you "had it", then the next year all of a sudden *poof* "it" was gone.

As you said, hopefully that's not the case with Adams.

So, age is mental? Just askin' for an old guy.

LOL

That could quite possibly be the best gif I've ever seen on here, especially in reference to my post. That's exactly how I feel about working out sometimes...a lot of times...maybe even most of the time.

I knew that I had lost it at 37. I hadn't been on the court in awhile, called myself running and jumping up to grab the rim like I used to---no problem---but totally missed it by probably a couple of inches.  And then this young "kid" who worked there (at the Y) talking 'bout, "Man, you alright?"

All my young life, I was a thin person.  When I graduated high school, I weighed 140 lbs.

Most of my adult life I weighed around 160 lbs.  I rarely bothered to step on the scales because I was just "thin" and it didn't really matter one way or the other.

Then, at age 38, I made one of my rare visits on the scale.  I weighed 175 lbs.  My brain was screaming "WTF is this poo??!!??!?!?!?"  I hadn't been doing anything or eating anything different than I always had.  And, frankly, I didn't feel any different.  Just seems like age 37-38 is when my body metabolism decided it wasn't going to work full-time anymore and that part-time was fine.

I had a similar experience at the Y. Hadnt played ball in 15 years and decided I would go shoot a little. Everything was short and i couldnt figure out why, until i noticed I wasnt jumping.

The difference....he is a professional who has been focused on staying in top shape.  Can't compare him to experiences at the "Y".

Unfortunately time gets us all...It's just a matter of time.
