There is no doubt that Matt Kalil has the ability. He made the pro bowl as a rookie because he can play. The gamble with him is whether he can make it through the season healthy. If the gamble pays off, we have a pro bowl caliber LT for the next 5 years.

If he makes it through the season healthy is a question about every player at every position to one degree or another. Like I said it is a gamble, but I think it's a good one.

I knew what you meant. Just nit picking.

My dad is a Vikings fan and was fairly surprised at the Kalil contract, likely for the same reason everyone else is concerned. It's fairly obvious he was brought here to work with the offensive line staff to improve on his deficiency's and to be with his brother. One would hope that health, coaching, and motivation of playing with a sibling will propel him back to what he was expected to be coming out of the draft.

    • No one way to do it, it does appear that with the bigger draft picks of the last 5 years…..majority haven’t steered clear of young QBs on the roster being their hopeful guy. Especially past their rookie seasons but even some the biggest ones have had it early.   As far as Andy Dalton, the two young guys he has “mentored”…..have had very rough NFL starts.  Which really ask the why the heck is Dalton here.   He doesn’t really check any box.  No young potential.  Can’t step in and win.  And his mentor track record with Fields and now Bryce is bad
    • I had thought the Panthers might let him play out his contract this year and hope he stays healthy. If not draft a left tackle and move Ekwonu to right tackle.
    • Frankly, if most teams in the NFL lose their starting QB for a significant amount of time, they're screwed. The fantasy is that one has a future Tony Romo or a Nick Foles that can carry a stacked team. The reality is that you might get roughly 3~5 games out of your backup before it all falls apart. Remember all of Peyton Manning's backups? Utterly terrible. Speaking of backup QB's, Raiders may need one. https://www.nfl.com/news/raiders-qb-aidan-o-connell-suffered-fractured-wrist-in-preseason-finale-expected-to-be-out-6-8-weeks
