Relieved

In 2013 we looked like absolute poop and were 1-3.  We ended up 12-4.  No.  I'm not "relieved."  We're 2-1, 1 GB of the division lead with 2 games against the leader.  There's work to be done, and we're a pretty good squad when healthy.  If you give up on any season after 3 games, especially when over .500, you may need to go watch 20 more years of football and then come back and try again.

That was different.  We were losing close games and shooting ourselves in the foot. I did not give up on this season and will continue to watch every minute like a true fan.  However, I don't expect much improvement from this team. I think the primary reason is that Cam isn't healthy and he may never be the same again. I hope I am proven wrong.

I walked right into that one Saca.  Didn't intend for a complete breakdown of the Pats but well done.

My response...Ron Rivera and Mike Shula say hold their beers.

Too bad he probably does more research on our opponents than our staff does. And all he had to do was search, copy and paste.

I mean.  Each season is different, yes.  The 3rd loss that year taking us to 1-3, we couldn't do anything on offense and were completely stifled @ Cardinals.  People were wanting Rivera fired after the Buffalo loss and then we went and lost ANOTHER game.  If you want to say we 'shot ourselves in the foot' in that Arizona game I think it was with a .50 caliber machine gun with the entire clip, because it was not on some flukey last play/drive like the @ Bills game was.  1-3 was a dire outlook at that point.  2-1 is never a dire outlook.  At least not when we KNOW we are dealing with injuries to key contributors...most of which we know we will get back at some point.  And we know Cam should continue to get better as he gets healthier, so survive and advance is really our main key right now.  Thusfar, we've done a decent job.

If you go back and look at all the games Sunday, most underdogs were winners....That's what happens early on in week 3.  Teams establish themselves, and then in Week 3 you have teams throwing the kitchen sink out to sell out for a win that they need to not completely already throw their season away (see Saints).  Does this mean we're going 11-5? Not necessarily.  Does it mean we're in deep trouble?  Not necessarily.  It's definitely not time to feel relieved and expect losses.  To me, that's insane.  A season is a roller coaster.  After 3 games, we're in the 2nd best scenario record-wise you could be in.  I realize there are concerns with health and with the OC but we shouldn't sound more doomed than the Browns/Bengals/Jets fanbases.  That's a strange trend IMO.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
