I admit I didn't read all of your post so my apologies if I misread the intent from the thread title.  But my contention still stands that no amount of spin can paint Hurney as even slightly competent.  He is nothing more than JR's ball licker and that's just what JR wants.

Hes a terrible GM but sometimes you meet worse ones. I know it sounds funny but it happens. I've said it before I don't blame Hurney for being incompetent I blame JR for allowing it and thinking it's a good thing. JR has pissed on all the fans and no one really seems to care.

I'll be rooting for him.  Hope he gets some redzone snaps and scores him one.  He can't play tons of reps not knowing the playbook but they can get him some light work.  Dude has had a rough year.  Hope he has good opening with them.

Sorry to see him go, but it's not the end of the world. Buffalo might not even sign him to a long term deal. A third and a seventh for an above average WR with a bum knee and a weight problem who will play 1.5 seasons for you for $10m total isn't that high of a price to pay, if you think he'll contribute to two deep playoff runs...

I'll ask this: of all the first rounders currently (as of Tuesday morning) on our team that we selected, where did he rank? Above Butler, for sure, but above anyone else? Maybe not.

I think you missed the point.  Doesn't matter if it was Cam or the water boy.  The point is that a player had to be sacrificed inorder to get the OC to change his game plan.  Let that sink in for a minute.

I heard the point, I just don't believe it. No reasonable GM or Coach - and I firmly believe Rivera was part of this decision - would trade a commodity to motivate an OC. 

And I do think these are reasonable guys.

If I play conspiracy theories Hurney could be trying to control Shula till they pick a new GM. That said GM could start adjusting or clean house but I really doubt that happens. Glass way full theory.

So that would mean Shula has more say than the GM.  The only way to override Shula is to take away his toys and hope JR is asleep while you do it.  Does that sound like competent management?

First, I'm not going to pretend I've seen every single quote, so I'll kindly ask you to quote where they used these exact words. 

Second, if you're only going on the quote that they said they want to get more speed on the field, I'll defer to countless other posts that give a rational explanation for what this means: why on Earth would you just bench him if you aren't going to use him. The guy can't find motivation to keep himself in shape. You think making him the third string WR is all of the sudden going to make him more valuable than third and seventh round picks?

Third, I don't even know if I believe the explanations they're giving. Coaches and GMs do tend to be a bit selective with the truth. As I've said before, I think he would have been on the market in training camp if his mother hadn't passed away.
