We still control our destiny for #2 seed

Click here to see the playoff machine show us that if we win out we still get the 2 seed.

Here is the rules for breaking a tie for two teams in the same division:

https://www.nfl.com/standings/tiebreakingprocedures

Conference W/L does not take hold until the 4th tie breaker

Quote

TO BREAK A TIE WITHIN A DIVISION

If, at the end of the regular season, two or more clubs in the same division finish with identical won-lost-tied percentages, the following steps will be taken until a champion is determined.

Two Clubs

  1. Head-to-head (best won-lost-tied percentage in games between the clubs).
  2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the division.
  3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games.
  4. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
  5. Strength of victory.
  6. Strength of schedule.
  7. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
  8. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
  9. Best net points in common games.
  10. Best net points in all games.
  11. Best net touchdowns in all games.
  12. Coin toss

So as long as we handle are business the panthers will have gone 11-1 against common opponents with the Saints while the Saints will be 10-2 against common opponents.

I wanted to post this because even I was thinking we lost the tiebreaker due to losing all of our games in conference whilst the Saints have dropped one of their games to the Patriots in the AFC.

If we win out and Eagles somehow lose today we actually wouldn't have a bad shot at the 1 seed. Would be a similar way to get the 1 seed to how the Seahawks got it in '14 after starting kind of slow like us this year. Eagles have a tough schedule going forward.

this really makes our games against the vikings and saints even bigger.

if the panthers win every game from here on out and the saints lose to just us, we'd be tied, but we'd be the number 2 seed. if we win every game except the vikings, then that would put the saints ahead of us, since they also lost to the vikings and would keep our common opponents record at the same 10-2.

If the Rams win out could they have the tiebreaker over us?

hmmm. i think so.

we'd win the division for sure though if that's the case if we win out.

I don't think they'll win out though. Hopefully they beat the Aints but even outside of that they have a toughish schedule. Seahawks could win out too, could that give them the 2 seed over us?

yes. that would. they have a better conference record than us.

sucks really. our loss to the bears hurts even more.

Hopefully we just win out. The rest will take care of itself. Unlikely multiple teams go 13-3 or better so if we do, we have a damn good shot at a bye.

Dallas should beat them tonight  and Sehawks can defiently beat them at home.

#1 seed is possible long as we take care our business.

    • The same folks crying about the OL right now were crying about it in 2023 too. We have tied up over 100 million dollars in two interior olinemen alone. We've invested multiple first and second round picks in the offense. We hired an offensive minded head coach. This is an offensive team. The offense needs to produce or people need to be replaced.
    • This is the same place that has ridiculed and blasted Caleb Williams at every opportunity he has his team sitting at 10-4 in the same NFC that the Panthers are competing in. And their division in the NFC North is as or more competitive as our division. Yet from the same people who have very high standards for Williams we get every excuse imaginable for the smallest starting QB in the league even when he and his team continue to disappoint when the pressure is on. You lot aren't any less inconsistent than anyone else.
    • The Panthers are 9th in cap spent on offense this year.  However next season is already a different story  The Panthers as it stands right now will be 18th in cap spent on offense and 8th in cap spent on defense  The Panthers are currently set to spend more on defense next year than they are on offense this season Guys like Jaycee and Moehrig cap numbers take a big jump. Wharton has a massive cap hit   Jaycee Moehrig and Wharton in 2025 The same 3 in 2026 So this same defense as it stands right now will cost more in 2026 than this offense does right now… Got anything else you want to try?
