Sometimes a 1st down is also considered a good play but if you have more than one or two in a row, it is def. time for a punt.

there are times for it and times not for it. early in the game (when I believe it was used) is okay. Late in the game, it starts depending on the score and how fresh the defense may be along with how the opposing defense has done on pass plays. If Delhomme had 2 plays before where he just couldn't get it together, you call for the draw play and try again next time.
