Scenario for the #2 seed

Here's a breakdown of our chance at the #2 seed using rather arbitrary estimates and a little math:

  • Rams lose to either Titans or 49ers = 44% chance
    • Rams lose to Titans = 30% chance
    • Rams lose to 49ers = 20% chance
  • Vikings lose to either Packers or Bears = 36%
    • Vikings lose to Packers (assuming no Rogers) = 20%
    • Vikings lose to Bears = 20%
  • Saints lose to either Falcons or Bucs = 52%
    • Saints lose to Falcons = 40%
    • Saints lose to Bucs = 20%
  • Panthers beat Bucs = 100% (heck yeah!)
  • Panthers beat Falcons = 100% (heck yeah!)

Chance Panthers get #2 seed (i.e., chance of all bold items happening) = 8.2%

If you are less confident of the Panthers winning out---say you give that 50% chance--then our overall chance at the #2 seed drops to 4.1%.

The Titans and Packers are done.  I'll just be happy making the dance and then hope we channel some of that 2005 playoffs magic and hit the road dominating.

And then get blown out in the NFCCG because our team is gassed?

I can’t remember where I heard it, but I remember an analyst last year saying “You can’t win a playoff spot early in the season, but you can lose one.” I know that we will probably make the playoffs, but it’s around this time of year that you realize those Philly and Chicago Losses really bit us in the ass. If we would’ve beaten Chicago we would be the number 2 seed, had we beaten Philly, we’d be the number 1.

This goes both ways. Panthers could have easily lost to the Falcons (Julio Jones dropped TD in last minute), Jets, and Bills, but those teams managed to have big screw ups late.

Hindsight is 20/20. Just focus on the present.

Correct me if im wrong

rams split vs titans and 49ers

vikes split vs GB and CHI

Aints split at ATL and Tampa

We win out.....=2seed bye!

Its plausible...

Could see Rams dropping one vs Titans (fighting for playoff spot) and the rejuvenated 49ers.

Can't see the Vikes losing the Hundley's Packers or the Bears

Aints probably beat ATL and can't count on Tampa either
