just because the Giants put out a wishlist of the traits of an ideal candidate it DOES NOT mean that wilks is not even a consideration. this is like a job listing that asks for fifty years of experience and expertise that no one in the world has. it's not an actual requirement. delete this please

Ralph Vacchiano is a long time Giants beat writer and a very reliable source.

From the article...

Quote

Now that the Giants have their new GM, they will very quickly turn their attention to finding their new head coach.

And only candidates with experience need apply.

That may not be an unbreakable rule, but that's the clear preference of both Giants co-owner John Mara and new GM Dave Gettleman. They'd prefer a coach with previous head coaching experience, or at last "significant" experience as a coordinator, Mara said.

Could they go outside the box? Sure, but there are plenty of good candidates who fit their criteria, so why should they?

I still think Wilks gets a job somewhere, and this year, just not with the Giants.

I could see them going after Todd Haley or Josh McDaniels. On the defensive side I could see Jim Schwartz.

Some coaches that fit what they say they're looking for (* = if they're fired)

Jim Schwartz

Bill O'Brien *

Josh McDaniels

Todd Haley

Jim Caldwell "

Marvin Lewis

Mike Mularkey

Jack Del Rio *

Hue Jackson *

Ken Whisenhunt

I could definitely see the giants moving on from Eli in a year or two so I would say that might narrow the list of candidates.

They have a very high pick, and have stated that keeping Eli doesn't mean they won't take a quarterback high.

I'd hire Lewis out of that group for the Giants...

I expect them to probably pick high for at least two years. Fixing there Oline IMO might be a better choice. I think all pro lineman are more rare than QB's right now.

Related Note: Mara reportedly talked to Belichick regarding coaches. Belichick recommended Schwartz.

There's some speculation that Belichick did that to keep them from sniffing around Josh McDaniels. And yeah, I think we all know he's capable of pulling that kind of BS.
