Mr. Scot

We have another weapon who is also talented in cmc We need to get the best out of the two of them  like Kurt Warner and Faulk or Brady and Gronkowski. You make the defense worry about cmc and it opens thing up for cam provided he has another playmaker

Agree--hopefully the new OC can do this.

I keep Elway with the Favre that I posted about...which is more staying the same. But there is a hint of that which is why you say kinda. But I like that you brought that up. Would we be getting that with Norv? Or who would be able to do that?

Norv helped turn Alex Smith around when he was with the 49ers.

Yep yep....what is Mr. Scots #1 option and if it's Norv other than Norv?

Cooter, DeFilippo or Reich, none of whom we probably have a realistic shot at.

I posted a while back that I'd love Turner as a QB coach more than an OC.

Better sign some real WR’s then if that’s the plan

Exactly. Cam just wants to win and will whatever is necessary to do that.

if you want him to run less like Aaron Rodgers then give him a legit passing game and let our running game come back.

then I guarantee he will only run occasionally.

Cam is MORE than capable of excelling as a traditional drop back passer. He’s proven it over and over. His problem has always been the lack of talent around him. When he was young he had one good receiver and one good TE and he broke passing record after passing record. We lost Smitty and gained Shula and his passing stats plummeted. That wasn’t a coincidence or regression. It was obviously the stripping of competent weapons. He had good RBs and no WRs. Good RBs help him less than other QBs because he can fill the role of good RBs himself.

In Short, give Cam a legit WR or two and a decent LT (floor of Oher-caliber) and whatever vision Ron has I’m sure Cam can realize.

His mechanics are awful. He consistently overcomes them with his freakish athleticism. How many guys can throw a 30 yard dart, across their body, falling away, on the run?! If someone like Norv, who has a proven track record at developing QBs came in here, I'd be fine with his perceived lack of creativity. I'm not one that has a big problem with ball control offense. Controlling the ball is one of the main tenets of the sport, but you have to score once you grind your way into the red zone, and FGs don't cut it.

No one's been thinking about this, but MAYBE Norv is being brought in as the QB coach, and there's someone else in mind for the OC role. You never know...

His mechanics are not awful. He's just not consistent with it. If he had awful mechanics, he would not be where he is today.

I think I agree with what someone said in another thread. Part of Shulas problem other than him being a failure of a person and not very smart is that Turner has a better/complete grasp of the system....He wont' have trouble thinking a few plays ahead and can have Cam in better position to survey the field without wasting so much time like we have been doing Shulas whole time here.

“No ups and downs”

”the Cam Newton that played Sunday to show up every Sunday”

The standard this fan base holds Newton to is ridiculous and so unrealistic. Every pro athlete is going to go through up and downs and have bad games. It comes with sports.

Not to the extremes Cam has. Two weeks ago, when a win would have meant playing the Saints at home, Cam was just bad.

40% comp, 180 yards,  5.3 YPA,  1 TD, 3 picks, 35 QB rating,

next week,he's

60% comp, 349 yards, 8.7 YPA, 2 TDs, no picks, 105.5 QB rating.

That's Jekyll/Hyde type numbers.

Think the Falcons defense deserves some credit for those bad numbers, but there were a lot of unforced errors by Cam in that game.

He's much more up and down than other good QBs.

God I hope not. The last time we tried this we went 6-10 here’s to hoping that doesn’t happen again.  Was also Cams lowest passer completion percentage at 52% and completion percentage is very important if we’re are going to turn him into a pocket passer.  Which is what I’m assuming you meant by traditional QB

That last time they tried it was with Shula and Dorsey doing the "reshaping".  Not quit the same wouldn't you say?

Also, reshaping is not the term I would use, it's more like smoothing out the rough edges.

Very good point Jon maybe Shula was the problem.  But from what I’m reading I don’t think Norv is going to be much different.   Or maybe he will turn it completion around and we finally get that big shiny trophy
