Reshaping Newton

How many folks here have ever worked for a friend?

Sure you might try hard, but chances are you also wind up doing a fair share of goofing around because you know the boss is your buddy. That's just human nature.

I'm really not sure Shula, and especially Dorsey, held enough away to truly "coach" Newton because they were friends.

I think the real issue was they didn't have enough knowledge to "coach" Newton.  Those two guys were a very poor choice by Ron and he will have to live with it, no matter how many times it wakes him in the middle of the night.

Hiring Dorsey was an absolutely horrible idea.

That he lasted this long says a lot.

I honestly think Cam has carried so much of the load in the running game out of sheer necessity. He was by far our most effective runner this year and that's honestly been the case more often than not throughout his career.

I would love to see us be able to establish a more effective traditional running game to take some of that load off of him. I think he'll always be our primary short yardage runner. He's just too good at that to go away from it.

The question is....Is Stewart done or will the hiring of Turner be the difference.  Stewart is a beast to bring down.  I think his production or lack of production in this case could be blamed on the POOR play calling of Shula.

IMO we keep Stewart through training camp and see if he fits Turner's mold of a beastly RB.  Put CMC in the Sproles role mentioned in another thread and our RB situation could be solved "On the roster"  We still have CAP and I would love to see what he could do for us.   As stated previously, RB is thick in this draft so we could probably get a decent RB in Rounds 3 or 4.

If Turner's offense can create an atomsphere where Cam isn't the primary runner.  Throwing in a run or two or three per game for Cam will only force defenses to cover everyone.  Cam gets better when he runs a couple times.   Like he said before.  You can't take the roar out of a lion.  Or something like that.

Stew is shot. The burst is gone.
