Some of that Kalil $ could have gone toward keeping Norwell

The irony is that you couldn’t have summed up the Dave Gettleman philosophy any better if you tried. Hence the “Bargain Bin Dave” nickname...yet the one time he strayed from his approach and overpaid for a FA, you are so quick and vocal to crucify him. This was such a stark contrast to how he had drawn up contracts and played out FA this far, which is why some people wonder if there was pressure from higher up for the Kalil signing.

In my opinion,  believe it or not, Kalil was a bargain bin signing in every way except the money.  I mean Dave lost his mind.  He did so well with the Oher acquisition---Oher who was marginally better than Kalil---and then flipped the script with Kalil.  I don't get it, and when I asked why the stark difference (after Kalil was signed),  no one could give me an answer. And they still can't.

No one can give you an answer because of course no one here is in the front office. We can only speculate ...and as you said, this was such a stark contrast in Gettleman’s philosophy that it’s not entirely unfathomable to think that he may have been pressured from his superior(s). Regardless, it was a bad signing and Gettleman deserves criticism but it hardly warrants a million unprovoked snarky comments spanning across numerous threads (not saying from you necessarily). It just comes across as incredibly bitter and personal.

And that's how you end up with Byron Bell and Mike Remmers.

I agree, but that does not mean overpaying for a T who is not much better. It is a problem either way.  If we are spending $3m on our T instead of $12m, that leaves...............$9m. Are there other positions that could use a boost?  Yes.  Every team has weaknesses, and knowing them is part of the strategy.  Paying a weakness $12 m creates problems elsewhere.

Some of us saw this coming from streets ahead. You're gonna have to overpay in the FA Tackle market, and few have panned out lately in the draft.  The teams that do have good LTs are not letting them go. The contract is a two year make it or break it that's above performance, but right in line with what the market commands. Just about the only way to get a stud LT is to land a top 5 draft pick. Kalil hasn't performed like some of us hoped he would and he's only here one more year, but the future is not looking bright no matter what.

or draft a few and develop them...cant wait 5 or 10 years for the stud LT....it's easy  over time ...it's like waiting for the perfect wave ...you let a lot of good ones get by...so ride the good ones while you wait

    • The right answer is neither and drafting Maye with the #1 Pick of the 2024 Draft lmfao we traded away the #1 in a QB LOADED DRAFT
    • I have no idea why you are so irrationally upset about the notion that going out and spending $150 million free agency dollars on two interior offensive linemen could be construed as a panic response after our #1 pick we traded a fortune for had one of the worst rookie seasons of the last 25 years. It is objectively what transpired. Dan Morgan as of right now is a mixed bag. Some really good some so so some not so good some bad some really bad. You take any rational criticism personally like you are related to him or something. That's something you'll have to figure out for yourself. Anyways. The predicament Dan Morgan finds himself in for this year will define his future as GM. I sincerely hope he navigates it to perfection. But the circumstances are largely of his own creation. And not just in his stint as GM but going back to his time as assistant GM. Which conveniently people like yourself don't like to talk about. That is the reality of the situation. I like how you will carry water for Dan Morgan to the point of getting into random spats with people but make no mention of Bryce Young's glaring limitations and shortcomings as a starting QB yet go out of your way to put the onus of our struggles squarely on Canales. I mean I've been quite critical of Canales too but he sure isn't the only one to blame for our problems.
    • They weren't well thought out. We needed one, not both. 2 top center/guard candidates were going to be available in the 2nd. We would have been fine with JPJ or Frazier. Drafting either over XL or Brooks would have made perfect sense. Hell, drafting both would have made sense even if we had signed Lewis or Hunt. Instead we drafted a 1 year wonder project WR and a luxury RB that we didn't need since we had Hubbard. Draft IOL, pay tackles. Plenty of 2nd round guards and centers start immediately and play very well. Those 2 picks were not good then, now, no matter how much explaining anyone tries to do. Several of called it then.
