Marty kept 2 kickers. = incompetence

This isn’t / shouldn’t be a debate anymore

Mr Scot owned this thread and owned the few arguing with him

Keeping two kickers isn't incompetence, considering 3 things.

1. The player who's job the kicker got wouldn't have played much, if any at all and likely would have been inactive.

2. You were trying to trade one of the said kickers instead of just cutting them.

or

3. They weren't completely comfortable with either one because of one's practice performance and ones pre season game performance.

It's only a debate because both GMs are God awful horrible and couldn't win consistently because of given faults in their skills.

Please name how many times in last 15 or 20 years a team held 2 kickers after preseason…

It is a business.  In fact, it's a business with millions of dollars at stake.

And it's a job.  A professional job.  And there are plenty of cases of teammates who don't like each other.  That's human nature.

If you're willing to risk and sacrifice millions of dollars over hurt feelings, well...

Yes there's also plenty of cases where locker rooms were split and the teams performance got worse because of said issues. Despite it being a business and millions of dollars being at risk, they are still human, they still have feelings and those feelings can and will manifest themselves on the field. Nothing you can do about that at all.

There's so many examples of players being locker room cancers or coaches loosing the players because of emotions that to completely discount them is foolish at best.

simply put, you want your coaches and players to be happy. Not disgruntled with management and no one in the front office to smooth it out.

Beane leaving sealed Gettlemans fate because the one person in the front office that players liked and buffered the one they didn't as much like was gone.

Please name how many times a GM has rescinded a franchise tag on an all-pro player and then in a panic throw away three straight picks in the draft hoping to find an adequate replacement.

Panthers with Rhys Lloyd 2007-2010, Bills in 2015, Broncos in 2014, Ravens in 2008. A few other teams if I remember correctly.  before the rule changes it was more common.

A what about response doesn’t look good in this situation. Because teams don’t keep 2 kickers

GMan had the fortitude to believe in his process to make that decision to not blow up the cap

Yeh a wasted roster spot for a kickoff specialist.....

so out of all the teams year in and year out over the last 2 decades you can count on 1 hand the # of times it’s happened. Usually means it’s not an ideal practice...

point proven

Yeah, that money was much better spent on Matt Kalil.

Going by that logic rescinding the franchise tag isn't an "ideal practice" either,  correct?

When a player asking for too much and his agent being an amateur. GMan made a big boy call.

Get over it ?

You do remember all the talk about how incredibly close the locker room atmosphere was in 2015, right? And who was GM at the time?

That was after the release of Smith and the retirement of Gross. And no, there haven't been reports of huge locker room problems since then. And Beane and Cowden left for promotions, which happens with every team.

Again, you're making stuff up rather than going off the actual facts.

Your argument was if it's not common it's bad,  correct? Therefore going by your "logic" it was a bad move. Don't move the goalposts once your own argument is used against you. Using a practice squad spot on a kicker isn't a big deal at all honesty. Does it concern you that much that he would be taking the spot of 12th string LB Joe McBlow?
