Jerry established a franchise in a league dominated by black people and is known to have a relationship with quite a few players including Cam***

Also stop using emojis they are cringe and it makes your incredibly weak argument even weaker.

You're reaching. It isn't against the Rooney Rule to make a terrible hire. From a Rooney Rule standpoint the Panthers are more than covering their bases here. Sure, there may be some minor PR flack caught, but it'll be minor. There will be much bigger stories. The sell of the Panthers franchise, free agency kicking into gear, hype of the pre-draft process, who is going to win the Kirk Cousins sweepstakes, etc. One benefit of being a relatively small market team is that NFL fans in general don't really care about our GM quasi-search.

Or you could hit three birds with one stone.

  • Rooney Rule.
  • Look how not racist JR is.
  • Look at how qualified and totally not preferred Hurney is.

I hope this isn't what it looks like, but I think most of us have resigned ourselves to the idea that this is all likely a dog and pony show and Hurney will get the job. It sucks, but it is what it is. Everyone can cry to the top of their lungs that it violates the spirit of the Rooney Rule but there will be no proof. It isn't what you know, it's what you can prove.

What about interviewing highly qualified black candidates for a job before you hire a less qualified white candidate?

("but hey, we interviewed three black guys; see, we're not racist")

Does dating outside your race count or do you have to actually marry them before it counts?  Asking for a friend.

Been there.  Boy, did my dad just looooove that :eyeroll:

Family can be funny about such things.  Mine never really liked any woman I dated regardless of race.   Their favorite though, and mine to date, was mixed (African and Spanish) but it didn't work out.  Remind me to tell you about Dominique, she is a Dominican woman I dated for a while.  Ah the memories.

The Pollard Alliance reportedly already called bulls--t on using the interim tag to keep from interviewing other candidates, and we've got an outgoing owner who has a racial incident on his record.

This will not look good at all.

It may not look good to some, but that hardly equals "shitshow of epic proportions."

Having a black friend makes it impossible by definition to be racist unless you are using an incorrect SJW definition.

    • I don't think working from memory is going to be very productive or useful. You would need to compare them all, which is far easier to do from the breakdowns of each game. That has tiered charts that give real data.  But, even then that wouldn't substitute for a trained eye(s) doing detailed film analysis to attempt to determine if we are modifying the offense dramatically for Bryce.
    • I think front office and general team culture under new ownership is sort of on the right track. The rookies all look incredible compared to where you'd expect each one of them to be right now. Lee's in game coaching is awful, he might be ok as a culture and developmental guy but that can't outweigh the in-game miscues and bad game plans. If LaMelo can't figure out the ankles then I think you gotta trade him for a haul, can't keep having your seasons lost every year because he can't stay on the court. And I say that as a big fan of him. Miller I think is unlucky, he looks likely to be an elite core player for us, but if he can't put together a stretch of healthy seasons he would trend towards LaMelo and need to be moved. I used to like Miles on the court a lot more but nowadays he's just an empty stat guy who needs to go. The short lived hot start to the season was fun but unless LaMelo and Miller both get and stay healthy within the next few weeks I can't even see us being a play-in team this year. And even if they do get healthy, we're probably looking at play-in at best, maybe barely compete for that fringe 6th seed.
