Could play a part but committing to a team, have them hire assistants that YOU want and then backing out is a bad career look.

Not as bad as taking the Colt's job and getting fired after one season.    He has the better job at the moment.  I'm also positive he will get pay raise out of this.

Josh may be staying in NE because of possibly replacing BB when he retires and this is just a thought.

BINGO. Might be a few years off, but having to move Jimmy hurt Bill. I feel like that was BB way of having another franchise qb, continuing his legacy along with winning without Tom

I'm sure he was promised stability from their new gm in the deal. But even if he would get fired after one year that wouldnt give other franchises a bad perception of him. But NOW when he interviews in the future this series of events will be in the back of every teams minds

Three guys left their previous jobs and took assistant positions with the Colts on his word and expecting to work with him.  Uprooted their lives, their family's lives and everyone just for him to turn around and go "psych".

He's clearly as a--hole, but hey that's par for the course up there.

I can't speak from the perspective of an owner of a pro football franchise but I will say that as someone who hires people I do not count it as a negative that a perspective employee turned down a job with a competitor.  Even if he had agreed to it in principle and then decided against it.  I'm betting it doesn't hurt his chances one bit, except for the Colt's that is.

If it was just that would be one thing but as Mr. Scot posted above the colts new assistants are their on McDaniels word of joining the team. Not to mention him making a commitment  made the colts lose out on other good candidates. Hell pat shurmur might have been an option for them but he picked an aging Eli since the colts position was viewed as being FILLED

That hurt his standing with those guys I'm sure.  Will it make his next assistant choices a little tentative about signing on until he is officially "in" the HC job?  Probably with some, but it's nothing close to a career killing decision.  What he does from here will dictate that.

If you're any team other than the Patriots, would you hire him now?

After what he just did, I sure wouldn't.

It cost him trust within the league.  From this point forward, nobody will trust his word, or have faith that he will fulfill his commitments.

Technically, he was within his rights to back out, but it's just not something that is done...especially in the NFL.  It would have been one thing if he had done it early in the process, but to do it so late that it effectively took the Colts out of contention for the top HC candidates, and after verbally committing to the team, leading them to believe that it was a done deal (although I do agree they shouldn't have made the announcement without a signed contract) was unprofessional and borderline unethical.  Not to mention actively recruiting and actually hiring assistants.  Just a very bad look for him, and something that will follow him the rest of his career...think Lane Kiffen.

It's almost like he's a product of the Master of unethical behavior...wait.
