My issue with DG's WR drafting is that he didn't draft WRs, he drafted athletes who fit what he pictured as WRs. KB and Funchess were both viewed as WR/TE tweeners and Samuel was a WR/RB tweener.

i don’t have an issue with it since one of those guys proved they can be a really good 2 and the other one is emerging as a solid 2

gettleman drafted as many WRs as DTs in rounds 1 and 2, actually more if you count McCaffrey based on the way he’s been utilized (80 receptions)

We didn't draft CMC 8th overall to force feed him as a receiver. The entire point of using a top 10 pick on offense was to fill not just a need at RB for now and the future, but to acquire an overall playmaker. What he can do as a receiver is supposed to be an added bonus, not his main role. Otherwise we wasted a top 10 pick.

651 yards is 651 yards. you can’t define someone’s production by where they’re lining up.

tell bill belichick he doesn’t know how to utilize james white.

I'm not denying his skillset as a receiver. It isn't obviously yardage alone that defines draft value when you're looking to acquire a playmaker. It's the role that player fills and the attention he commands from defenses also. But at the same time if you draft a guy primarily as an RB, you don't expect your franchise QB to lead the team in rushing that same year. This point is even more crucial now with the departure of Stewart. All I'm saying is, fair or not we need production in the run game, or it was a reach at 8 overall, not even the thickest homer glasses will be able to change that.

no we expect our franchise QB to lead the team in rushing when our power run scheme breaks down bc everybody knows it’s coming and most teams know how to shut it down

you don’t draft a guy like mccaffrey to run up the middle, that’s what you draft a guy like fournette to do. you try to run him up the gut on every down and he’s not making it past week four.

Shula sucks, yeah yeah we both know this.

But CMC early on was going down at first contact and failing to make guys miss too often. To his credit he finished the season strong aside from the baffling drops in the playoffs. He's got the right mentality for a player drafted as high as he was, so I'm expecting even more improvement this upcoming season.

No, I really don't. I've said over and over that he's earned his starting spot next year.

But, he's in the last year of his contract. Do we want to give him $8-10M long-term? Because that's what it's probably going to take. Would I MUCH rather have Allen Robinson at $10-12M than Funchess at $8-10M. Absolutely. Hell yes.

I'd love to see us sign Robinson, let someone else give Funchess his second contract, and draft another guy in the first three rounds to develop as a rookie to take over opposite Robinson starting in '19. Let Samuel stay in the slot.

I'd rather Funchess continue to develop, than to have to constantly redo the receiving corps year after year.
