Quick note on the sale

Podcast: Expert predicts surprising sale price for the Carolinas Panthers

For those who choose to save their clicks, the prediction is at least 2.75 billion dollars, and maybe even higher.

(now say that number in your best Dr Evil voice; you know you want to)

The guy doing the predicting is sports business analyst Jeffrey Moorad, a former owner of the San Diego Padres and a longtime associate of super agent Leigh Steinberg.

One other detail: It had been reported by Page Six that bids on the team were due this past Monday. That's actually not true. What was due this week was each potential bidder's initial pitch for ownership, i.e. "here's how I'd run the team if I owned it".

Actual bidding might still a few weeks away. That's the "meat" that Katie Peralta was talking about recently. We should definitely hear some news when that process begins.

Interesting.

Would there be any access or hints to the kind of pitches made, or is that all confidental at this point?

I think you might have a better chance of hacking into the CIA database.

You never know, though. Things get leaked sometimes. It's possible.

That makes sense. There is a lot more to digest on intent than purchase price.  Any idea where these meetings are taking place?

Probably wherever the law firm's offices are located. New York, I think, but don't quote me.

I was thinking the same thing.  The reason I ask is that local media is doing a shoddy job if the bidders are coming to JR in CLT for bids.  Honestly I would like a media source outside the NY firm to confirm arrival of Panthers front office (similar to media outside owners meetings.)  I have to imagine Jerry Richardson is there in person to hear these pitches.  I also imagine the pitches are done in person by the bidders.  It would just be neat to use good old fashioned eyeball journalism to see who comes and goes to these meeting to help confirm/deny the bidding parties.  I think I care about this far more than the media does alas.  Maybe if I win the powerball I can stick a PI on this.

I predict a much lower sale price if no bidding war happens.

I think that stands to reason, but I actually have thought that the exact opposite would happen. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the sale ended at over three billion.

Kinda wonder whether the Saints will be sold now or if Benson's wife and kids plan to keep it.

If it's announced that the Saints are going to be for sale while our sale is still pending you gotta wonder if that's going to have an effect.

Don't think it will effect our sale. Panthers are a better team to buy.  We have a stadium and the PSL's in a growing market.

    • Great article on all the Lil Canes attending their debutantes ball. Walt with a great breakdown of all the rookies, as always, and I'm a huge fan of his team coverage, he is truly a treasure, but as a fan of mixed metaphors and superfluous language which some might ignorantly refer to as a "run-on sentence" I never really understood what that mean or where to put the comma after a quote in the middle of a sentence, but holy poo Walt, this is a gem, "While there's a long road left in front of them left to determine whether or not they'll have that same success on the blue line again, the beginning stretch of the journey has been thrown a wrench, and the story on defense has been the emergence of up-and-comers forced into becoming lineup regulars." , bravo, take a bow, sir!
    • How do I activate said Krispy Kreme deal? I'm stoned man you can't be playing with me about this...
    • When the broadcast showed the two benches side by side during the last TV timeout, it was pretty obvious the whole operation is a shitshow. If I was the owner, I would play that clip, with commentary, on the jumbotron at MSG as I fired the coach, GM, President, the whole lot. Bring in your AHL leadership team, wholesale, to finish out the season and start from scratch next year.  Can't fire all the players and fold the season. But, hopefully decapitating the zombie will light a fire under the body and burn out the cancer of the roster. (It makes sense if you don't think about it...) There are obviously issues on the roster. But, you can't have the entire coaching staff completely tuned out with 5 minutes left in a 2 goal game this early in the season. And you can't trust the people that hired them to hire the next staff. If you trust your AHL GM/Scouts, let them run the deadline firesale.   ...     Please don't let the owner read any of this. Because, this poo is hilarous!
