Andy Benoit on Panthers 2 biggest needs

CAROLINA PANTHERS

Biggest Need: Guard
Free agent Andrew Norwell wasn’t worth what his surprising 2017 first-team All-Pro honor suggested, which is why the Panthers let Jacksonville sign him in free agency. But that doesn’t mean Norwell’s left guard role wasn’t critical. Carolina’s ground game is built on “gap scheme” runs, meaning man-to-man blocking and pullers. That should remain true under new coordinator Norv Turner since those runs best highlight Cam Newton’s unique talent. The left guard is crucial to these designs.

Hidden Need: Wide Receiver
We’re fudging on the “hidden” part here because any team that has Devin Funchess and especially Torrey Smith as projected starters obviously needs help at wide receiver. The question is, what kind of help? With last year’s second-round flex weapon Curtis Samuel (if healthy) plus ex-Viking Jarius Wright, there are answers in the slot, which means we could be looking at another big-bodied target outside. Kelvin Benjamin 2.0, in other words. Benjamin and Funchess were drafted because their size compensated for some of Newton’s ball placement erraticism. That logic should be applied again.

    • I mean this is legit AF statement....you don't spend that draft capital on a project just like you don't trade up for an injured RB either, which was done in the same draft.  That draft IMO was a necessary evil for DM to learn from his mistakes (I think he did but some may not). Also I have to mention I'm a big Coker fan and think getting him as an UDFA was obv a steal.  Coker is the better WR2 at this point as Legette and its not even debatable unfortunately.  Give him year 3 but don't expect much from him.  Continue in the offseason with adding as much talent and competition on the roster as possible including WR.  Or just trade his ass for peanuts and continue to build roster by any means.......
    • Losing him was a huge loss. Look at how the Bears went from a 5 win team to now a 11 win team. The Lions offensive line is bad this year, secondary is bad and Campbell going for it on 4th down all the time has cost them games instead of taking the Field Goals. Goff is inconsistent as well.
    • Nah we just talking about giving a platform and normalizing predators (who both beat women) opinions and celebrating it if it fits your narrative.  If that's fun I'm fine being a miserable fug by not supporting P.O.S like that. N b4 you call me a libtard or some other dumb ish know I'm an Anarchist/Libertarian and believe both these dudes should get a complete ass whooping (at min) or something worse for what they have done to women in this world.
