INTERESTING draft fact about the SB champion Eagles

The Eagles have only had on draft choice so far, but the tidbit from he link below knocked me for a loop.

http://www.espn.com/blog/philadelphia-eagles/post/_/id/25105/philadelphia-eagles-2018-draft-analysis-for-every-pick

What’s next: The Eagles know the value of what lies ahead. VP of player personnel Joe Douglas points out 18 of the starters in Super Bowl LII were taken in the fourth round or after. The champs will have plenty of opportunities to mine for Day 3 difference-makers with two fourth-round picks (Nos. 125 and 130 overall), as well as selections in the sixth (No. 206 overall) and seventh (No. 250 overall) rounds.

All I can say is wow. The Eagles must have one heck of scouting department. Can you guys imagine Hurney and the Panther Front officebuilding a championship roster In a similar manner?  I’m starting to have doubts about him finding another stater in this year’s draft after the 1st round.

Based on his first stint as GM, Hurney proved that you can’t build a perennial contender on 1st round choices alone. The Pats have gone to the SB in years when they didn’t even have a pick in the first round. You’ve got to find gems in the later rounds if you plan to consistently compete for the Super Bowl and Marty has yet to prove that he can do that.

13 of 22 offense/defense starters were 1st or 2nd round picks. 5 starters in rounds 4-7. Special teams is another story.

this just for the eagles

patriots had 7 starters on offense/ defense forms rounds 4-7.

4 special team starters plus slot wrs and you have your 18 players from both teams combined.

Thank You for taking the time to research that. Your information provides a better perspective. I thought that number (18) seemed a little high, but it’s makes more sense if you’re considering the 4-7 rounders who started from BOTH of last years SB participants. The ESPN didn’t specifically say that.

Thanks again. :)

    • The best coordinators in the league don't want to touch a team that is going to force them to start their pet project players/coordinators who are failing. I can't put a HC on the chopping block who isn't allowed to choose his own QBs, DC, or what RB he wants to start.
    • I'm not looking forward to watching the ALL 22, but I could tell Bryce was given control to audible out of runs in 1Q, that control of the offense was taken away in 2Q to regain field position, and when Canales made him throw the ball in 3Q with the play calling, Bryce had no idea what was going on with the Seahawks defense. Bryce was spooked. He was seeing ghosts worse than Sam Darnold ever has. His hesitation, lack of urgency, and lob balls were the most consistent part of his game on Sunday.
    • I wanted Micah Parsons. So, I'll always be disappointed until Horn starts closing out games on defense consistently while becoming a playmaker teams refuse to throw at. I never wanted Brian Burns either. I wanted Dexter Lawrence. Now, if we can figure out how to get Hunter Henry, CMC, Lamar Jackson, Dexter Lawrence, Micah Parsons, Garrett Wilson, Jahmyr Gibbs, Jared Verse, or Ladd McConkey in a trade for Jaycee Horn, Ikem Ekwonu, Bryce Young or XL, I'm definitely on board. Anyone else, want to go after the players the Panthers should have drafted or kept for the ones they should have never touched?
