Draft Analyst thoughts on Panthers Draft Class

True. These same analysts gave us good grades on last years class as well and that class turned out to be very disappointing.

Nice thread.

Well to be honest, CMC was the only one of last year's picks to get real playing time.  Can't evaluate Samuel, Elder or Hall due to injury.  Our coaches didn't give Moton much opportunity, and Armah was always known to be a project. So, basically the only real grade you can give the 2017 draft is incomplete. We still don't know whether Elder or Hall add much... There's still promise there.

It's odd to see so many positive grades. Is it good to get analyst praise, or not?!? LOL.

I still remember the Huddle taking such pride in the HORRIBLE grades given to some of DGs first drafts. It seemed he'd fooled everyone... In reevaluation a year or two later he was given As... (But the longer term results look much less positive. Ealy, KB, Worley, Bene, Tre all gone...Star too, but that was a question of Cap space, not talent.  Shaq and Butler probably ok talent, but luxury picks who've not been the impact players yo want from round 1 picks... )

At least it's somewhat reassuring that so many analysts think we adequately addressed key positions of need. If Moore, Jackson and Gaulden CAN improve our WR production and strengthen our secondary it will have been a good draft, I guess, especially if Thomas can be a good TE2 as well.

Obviously much of the angst by many here is that we didn't draft any linemen, nor a RB.  Most of the analysts ignore that, grading on only who we picked and ignoring who we DIDN'T pick.  If the Oline and RB questions (and QB2)  can all be answered with the current roster and FA additions, maybe this draft will be ok.  Only time will tell.

Lol at kiper. “Marquis Haynes is a good player, taken in the third round.” The VERY next sentence “my only complaint is they didn’t take a pass rusher.”  I mean, say what you will about his size and scheme fit, he’s definitely a pass rusher....

He probably meant to refer to Gaulden in reference to third round.

Heh I didn’t even notice the round screw up, I was just referring to the fact he mentioned Haynes, he’s aware of the pick, and then right after that said we didn’t draft a pass rusher

Honestly, after researching these guys, I think Hurney did very well in the first four rounds, and that's pretty much all you can ask for. From what I've seen, Jackson is a baller, so Marty almost HAD to take him, especially over a more average safety in Reid. But even after forgoing Reid, Marty may have found the better guy (especially for us) in the third. Thomas could turn out to be the best value in our draft, if not the best TE in the class.
