Another profile of Navarro (with an interesting quote)

WSOC: Panthers bidder a humble man

The video is worth a watch, but this quote from former Charleston mayor Joe Riley stood out to me...

Quote

He said Navarro also told him why he wants to buy the Panthers.

“First of all, to make sure it stayed in the Carolinas, stayed in Charlotte, and he saw it as an opportunity to make something even better,” Riley said.

So he wants the team in Charlotte, and he wants it to be the best it can be.

I'll take that.

The report also indicated Navarro wants to increase the Panthers involvement in the community and education.

Don't really care who buys the team now as long as it gets JR's demented ass out of the way along with Hurney and the rest of the FO.  It is well beyond time for the JR era to be over.

Read the profile of Alan Kestenbaum in the other thread.

I did.  He doesn't worry me as an owner.  Personally I don't want another JR type running things.

Navarro worries me that he will just be a younger version of JR.  We know how that plays out.

Billionaires doing billionaire things is all this is.

JR perhaps but not necessarily anyone else. As for Hurney, he is doing everything he can to set this team up for success. We have more talent on this roster today than at any time during Gettleman's time here. So far this time Hurney is hitting it out of the park.

If you want to crown him before this team he's assembled ever takes the field then by all means go ahead.  I'll wait to see how it all plays out before I decide how well he's done.

And who said anything about Gettlemen?   This is about JR and his minions.  They all need the boot, Hurney included.

I can't totally disagree anymore.  As much as I hate to say it, it's time for JR to go.

Once they take the field it is no.longer on Hurney but the players and coaches. Hurney's job is to give the coaches and players the best talent he can assemble to make their jobs easier. He has clearly done that better than Gettleman ever did. His job will continue to be managing the talent if injuries occur and the roster changes. And yes it is about Gettleman and Hurney since many of you Hurney haters loved Gettleman when he was here and were so glad that Hurney got fired. Not only is Hurney back but he is showing he learned while he was gone. This time around he has done little to justify getting rid of him.

As I recall, you were Mike Shula's biggest fan too.

If you want to start another in a long line of GM debate threads, do it somewhere else. That's not what this thread is about.

Wait, so if Hurney's guys never amount to anything it's the coaches fault but it's Gettlemens fault that his plays didn't live up to expectations?

I admit I preferred Gettlemens approach and the results that followed over anything Hurney ever did.  But you are the one that keeps bringing that up not me.  I am judging Hurney on his merits or lack thereof.

Not a fan of Shula but a fan of the Panthers and the team. Note I haven't said anything to defend Shula despite the constant barrage of criticism he still gets. The reason is he is no longer on the team and not my concern anymore. While I have some reservations about Norv what have I said publically? That I support him and think he will do a good job. I am not a fan of a player or coach but a defender of the players and team while they play for us. As for the GM debates, that is not my thing. But someone else will take it up I am sure. The main thing I said about Gettleman when it first started was that his ego got in the way with Norman and would cause big issues. I was proven right once again when that led to his firing.
