CHARLOTTE – Second-round cornerback Donte Jacksonicon-article-link.gif and four other draft picks signed their contracts Thursday upon arrival for this weekend's rookie minicamp at Bank of America Stadium.

Tight end Ian Thomasicon-article-link.gif, defensive end Marquis Haynesicon-article-link.gif, linebacker Jermaine Cartericon-article-link.gif and defensive tackle Kendrick Nortonicon-article-link.gif also signed their four-year contracts. Wide receiver DJ Mooreicon-article-link.gif – the team's first-round choice – safety Rashaan Gauldenicon-article-link.gif and linebacker Andre Smithicon-article-link.gif still need to sign their rookie deals but are set to take part in the minicamp.

The signing process for drafted rookies has become a virtual formality since a rookie wage scale was established by the Collective Bargaining Agreement in 2011. All of the Panthers' seven undrafted rookie free agents have signed their three-year deals: guards Kyle Bosch, Taylor Hearn and Brendan Mahon; quarterback Kyle Allen; running back Reggie Bonnafon; linebacker Chris Frey and defensive tackle Tracy Sprinkle.

While rookie contracts have been standard, signing on the dotted line remains a momentous moment. It makes official the accomplishment of each player's NFL dream and signifies the securing of a coveted opportunity in a lucrative profession.

This is just a guess, but I can imagine that rookies who haven't signed yet are still getting their financials in order aka they have multiple financial groups wanting their business and the rookie hasn't decided who they're going with yet.

Yeah. More likely something like that or some other nuanced detail.  The only real holdout of note in recent memory (at least my memory) was the kid in San Diego a couple years back.   Believe that was related to some  ew type of language In the contract they were trying to float.

Yea, that rang a bell so I looked it up. It was Joey Bosa in 2016.

What the statement from the team did not clarify was the timing of the payment of the entire signing bonus and the offset language, which dictates what the Chargers would owe Bosa in terms of guaranteed money if they would decline to pick up his fifth-year option. These are the main issues keeping the Chargers and Bosa from reaching an agreement.

DJ Moore is the last rookie to sign

CHARLOTTE - Safety Rashaan Gauldenicon-article-link.gif and linebacker Andre Smithicon-article-link.gif are officially in the fold. The Panthers' third-round pick and their first of two seventh-round picks signed their four-year rookie contracts moments before taking the field Friday for Carolina's two-day rookie minicamp.

Wide receiver DJ Mooreicon-article-link.gif, the Panthers' first-round draft pick is the lone rookie who still needs to put pen to paper, but Moore is participating in camp along with the rest of Carolina's rookie class. Five other draft picks and the team's seven undrafted rookies all signed their contracts Thursday.

    • While I'd love to add him, it just doesn't make sense for where we are at in our re-build right now. The only teams who should be interested are those who have a very legitimate shot at winning the SB this season, as any team who makes the trade is going to be mortgaging their future to make the move. Teams who make these kinds of trades and then give them the massive contract, in the hopes that it will expedite their path to contention, ALWAYS ends up backfiring because they have to give up the 1st round picks that are then needed to help build out the rest of the roster after eating up such a significant chunk of the cap on the new contract. There is no way the Cowboys trade him for anything less than 2 future 1st rounders (and probably more), plus we'll have to make him the highest paid non QB in league history.  Not to mention that it would then have made the Scourton and/or Princely picks a bit of a waste, as those 2nd and 3rd round picks would have been better off used on a ILB or DB
    • Like his approach to pre season that's ro get them out there and play together for a few plays and right about the night before and morning before.  Maybe we can come out the gate on fire I can smell the smoke from here!!   Go Panthers
    • Only 26 years old, fills the biggest hole on our roster. Top 3 at his respective position, yeah fug it how often does a future HOF player become available in their prime?
