If Tepper as owner means getting away from the overly emphasized small town southern values bullshit then I'm all for it.

Couple of things I've gathered from reading his profile...

Personality wise, Tepper is foul mouthed, coarse, aggressive, abrasive and a poor loser.

When it comes to business decisions, he's analytical, unemotional, fearless and not the least bit sentimental.

He's about as different from Jerry Richardson as I could imagine.

Sounds like a real peach

From his New York magazine profile...

Quote

“He’s an asshole, to say the least,” says someone who worked with him. “I had stuff thrown at me. He can be a nice guy off the desk, in the kitchen or walking to the car. It’s almost like Jekyll and Hyde, you didn’t know any given day who was going to walk through the door.” This is not merely someone with a grudge. When Tepper coached elementary-school kids in softball, Phil Glassman says, he could be heard screaming all the way down the block.

Tepper admits he can be difficult. “I used to be worse,” he says over the phone. “When I was at Goldman, I’d say things to people like, ‘Do you know what a schmuck is? Go look in the mirror.’ Now I’m kinder and gentler. Aren’t I kinder and gentler?” he asks his employees.

In the background there’s silence.

“Aren’t I kinder and gentler?”

Another contrast...

Part of the reason Jerry Richardson and Bill polian didn't get along was because Polian could get royally pissed off while negotiating.  Richard used to try to get Bill Polian to dial it down by sending him notes with words like "CALM" in all caps.

How high strung was Polian?  He was said to have once thrown a chair at an agent and was accused of assaulting a Jets employee.

Now you've got an owner who's been known to throw things at people in his office and scream at youth baseball games.

Yeah...Things are changing.

Maybe Pittsburg or New Jersey would be a better fit for you

The amount of hurt feelings over that comment amuses me.

There's a reason our outgoing owner was forced to sell the team. For years he was known as the epitome of a "southern gentleman". We see how that turned out. He also folded like a lawn chair when directly faced with ignorant hateful remarks toward NFL players last year. Good riddance.

Jerry Richardson is basically Harvey Weinstein meets Paula Dean.

The bitter rednecks of the Panthers fanbase can poo on posts if it makes them feel better. But it doesn't change the fact that everything they eagerly embraced about the Jerry Richardson brand of football over the last two decades was a complete and utter sham. It's comical.

The fact that one man is a dick doesn't make entire culture a sham. There is a reason everyone wants to move to the south. Soon enough transplants will do to NC what Californians did to Colorado.

The fact that you would attempt to lessen the impact of his wildly inappropriate workplace behavior and casual racism reflects quite poorly on you. Yet simultaneously you want to torch carry for "southern values"? How confused are you?

Am I the only one that believes when Tepper gets the team, hardly anything changes.  I mean poo, guys gonna spend $2 Billion.  You think his next step is to rush into a bunch of expensive changes like building a new stadium?  Not happening.  I do expect changes in ticket prices, food, etc.  I expect BOA to be rented out more to generate more revenue.  Expect new/more advertisements.   Teppers not stupid and hes gonna recoup some of his investment first before plowing into another investment.

Given what I've read of his personality, when it comes to stuff like a new practice facility, stadium, etc, he's gonna look to get as much money as he can from the NFL, government and other sources before he spends a single dime of his own.

I'd gladly trade "needing free agents" with "superior drafting".

I've said that I believe it's possible the front office gets a year to audition, though I'm not as confident of that as I am the coaching staff.  You can replace a GM at this time of year and get away with it.  A head coach?  Not so much.

But it also occurs to me that Tepper could start bringing some of his own people into the operation without immediately firing anyone, and that may indeed be the better route.

We have no team president right now, and that'd be a promotion for a guy like Omar Khan.  Likewise, we have no Assistant GM or Director of Player Personnel or anything like that at the moment either.  You could easily fill those positions with someone like Phil Kreidler, Brandon Hunt, Samir Suleiman or someone like that.

Side Note: Suleiman is who the Steelers have tapped to be heir apparent to Omar Khan if he gets a GM job (which they expect he will) so I doubt you could get both but stranger things have happened.

And here's a bit of wishful thinking on my part...

I wonder, if Tepper offered him a title like Team President or something similar and total control, would Kevin Colbert consider jumping ship?

My guess would be probably not, and even if he did the Steelers could probably prevent it (at least until Colbert's contract ran out) but it's a tactic that's been used successfully before.  Heck, that's how the Colts got Polian.

Having Colbert as the architect of the Panthers future would be quite a coup.

This is what it sounds like when a moron tries to sound smart. Your words don't even relate to what you are replying to.

This is what it looks like when someone lacks the ability to form an actual rebuttal, but still can't resist awkwardly attempting to shoehorn themselves into a conversation.

Keep it pushing poindexter.

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
