Refresher on IR rules... Very tough roster decisions ahead

Appreciate the explanation on this as I was wondering about it last night as well.

At this point, I'd prefer to see Williams hit the IR. idk what to do with Amini. I know that the Huddle has written him off in favour of Kelvin Benjamin's favourite teammate, "anybody," else, however, I think that he can contribute. His rookie season wasn't awful, granted he was sandwiched between two Pro Bowlers, but he worked out before getting hurt. The man had probably the best offensive lineman highlight reel ever coming out of school lol.

Will definitely get interesting to say the least the closer to cuts we get and see if we lose anybody else.

It's better to IR them both. Amini was a backup at best anyway. Losing Williams sucks but it's unlikely he'd be able to come back at an effective level by the end of the season. Better to bring in some healthy guys who were cut from other teams than to rely on some injured guys coming back.

Looking at it from strictly a long-term health perspective, I believe that Williams should be IR'd. A torn meniscus before the first preseason game can be healed and rehabbed by the time the expiration date for IR-R players hits.

Whether or not there is better value in either of those, we'll see. I think that both will remain on the roster and try to tough it out.

I wish I knew what to do, I don't. I do know that we shouldn't make any hasty decisions before playing the first two pre-season games. We need to see how replacement level our replacement guys are in real game-like conditions. We also need that time to watch other linemen around the league in those two early games.

Until then we have no real idea of what we have, what we could have, or what we are losing by having both these guys out. Williams needs to take the full year and rehab completely and should go to IR. While there is medical talk saying that Amini could be back easily by mid-season, I've got to disagree with them. As a big guy who tore his meniscus, these things can be tough to come back from and your knee just doesn't work the same way it used to. Now imagine trying to play interior lineman in the NFL while relearning how to use your knee...

Honestly, I lean to putting them both on full season IR, but if the cupboard looks bare after pre-season game 2, then we may need to put Amini back into service even with a bad knee.

Edit to add: In Amini's defense, it's tough to be sandwiched between Turnstile Kalil and Whiplash Kalil and still look like you're winning the day.

I agree with the above about waiting a few weeks and watching preseason games before deciding.  It's not the end of the world to have only 88 healthy players right now. We started with 91 due to Obada special status, and now have Manhertz, Williams and Silatolu injured.

The much harder question for me would be keeping Silatolu and Williams on the 53 at cut time and risk 2 other players we want and need.

I'd aim to long term IR one at least. It will come down perhaps to our depth at tackle. If we can't find decent depth we may have to work towards bringing Daryl back. I'm more confident we can find solutions at guard.

    • The receivers got little separation, the receivers also ran wrong  routes in the same area at least once and of course xL being his usual self.   the oline was not top notch, in either run or pass pro the defense had moments  their stats ion 3rd down, really bad and stupid penalties   The defense had 4 chances at turnovers and missed them all  the offensive game  plan and its execution was as flawed as always  and did not work the middle of the field and per Jonathan Stewart, that is how to attack that seattle defense .   add it all up, they weren't winning that game particularly with Bryce as the leader of that orchestra offensively  the problem is it has to be perfect for Young  and he has to have short  fields   That is mot going to happen consistently  I dont know what the future holds for this team but i just do not see the play calling and execution from that offense with the canales idzik young marriage  being productive against better coaches and teams  a whole lot of draft choices and money  spent  on the offensive side of the ball   It is not working out and had Dowdle not been super man in games 5 and 6, no chance on this season  I hope they win  sunday and make the playoffs  it is good thing for many reasons  it will also be a spotlight…either young can play in big  moments or he cant, same for Canales and the rest of the players
    • Dude you wanted him with with #6 overall lol. Yes he's obviously better than Corral, I'd 1000% take him over brycey....   And I'd love to see us aquire him or Sam Howell in the offseason.
