He has had a problem jumping unnecessarily before the catch. KB had that problem for awhile as well. That needs to be fixed pronto. I don’t find him to be a natural hands catcher but he’s obviously putting in the work and there’s no doubting he’s one if not the most explosive players on our team.

100% agree with everything you said the only thing I’ll add to it and it’s just my opinion is that guys who aren’t legit natural hands catcher will never get to a point that catching a ball with their hands becomes second nature. You can obviously improve but you’ll always be able to tell apart a natural hands catcher from someone who isn’t.

I know Samuel bought that machine and has been putting in work, which is great but it’s a real tough habit to break. Especially when he’s still trying to make a name for himself, he’s always going to go back to what he’s most comfortable with. Hopefully once he gets his feet wet and becomes more comfortable he’ll loosen up.

Torrey Smith has zero guaranteed money next year so he will be cut. He was an insurance policy that we desperately needed last season and the guy we traded is currently suspended. So next season we have Moore Samuel and Wright as the starting 3. I would keep funchess. Hopefully he takes 8ish mil a year after the crazy WR contracts this year

Geesh, I know he seems to get hurt every other play but man when he’s on the field he seems to always be open and I don’t have a problem with his hands. I remain behind the pick because he seems to be exactly what the doctor ordered in the slot. That said wright and Co. have done nothing to succeed the right to be the number 2-3 wr... I wonder will he even get a shot at this point to prove he can win the job?

This really is a crucial year for him.  He's going to get reps.  Unfortunately, if he goes down again, or keeps committing rookie errors, I don't see him staying long.

I'm not worried about Samuel besides his injury, but he seems recovered from that. I don't recall him being injury prone or anything at OSU. He had some issues after the draft, but I feel like that's a common problem for rookies-- the training and work out schedule leading up to the draft often leaves guys with dehydration and other issues that can affect muscles like his hamstring. The ankle thing was pretty fluke. I think he's gonna be ok going forward.

Even last year, we've always seen him getting open. He makes solid catches when it counts. I think he needs one game where he blows the top off a defense and he'll be rolling. This whole receiver group has that potential. I'm just hoping we can ignite it early in the season.

Samuel’s two first half catches came when the Bills went into prevent and he just ate up the cushion, nothing special. He obviously wasn’t aware of the down and distance on the 3rd down catch on the crossing route because he headed for the sideline instead of trying to get the 1st resulting in a punt.

The ball he caught in the second half he never should’ve jumped for. He gave back all the separation he created leaving himself no chance for any YAC. He needs to stay on the ground and catch that ball so he can immediately turn up field. He got stupid separation on that route so you hate to see him waste it like that. *** Yes I know the ball was a little high and hopefully Cam puts in a better spot for him than whichever shitty backup was in at that time.

Nonetheless it was nice to see him contribute, baby steps I suppose, he’s still raw as hell. It was a nice look when they went him, Moore and Byrd there in the 3rd Q I believe it was. That’s lots of speed.

Wow, I missed all that.  He's essentially a rookie since he lost last year.  He has to get up to speed quick.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
