You're talking about Murphy like he's some kind of stud though. He's absolutely more potential than performance himself and he's 27 years old to boot. He has 8 carries for 41 yards and 51 total yards from scrimmage in his entire career and he's been active in a total of 4 NFL games in the past two seasons. I'd rather roll the dice on Hood.

If you wanna use career stats as a reference though, Hood has practically nothing. Pretty sure he hasn't even spent a full season on a roster yet.

Murphy ran all over us tonight, and looked good doing so. I saw enough out of him that I'd be willing to take a chance.

It's not something that I see realistically happening, but I do it if it were up to me.

Hood just entered the NFL in last year's draft. That's the difference. He's 22 years old to Murphy's 27. He's 230+ pounds to Murphy's sub-200. He had 11 touches for 65 yards (5.9 yards per touch) and a TD tonight vs. Hood's 4 touches for 28 yards (7 yards per touch) and a TD.

You're seriously smitten with Murphy, but I'm definitely not seeing it. Certainly not to the point of trading assets to attain him at a position of strength.

I see Hood as a potential practice squadder right now, whereas Murphy could be a better backup option than Artis-Payne.

I see a 3rd RB who probably won't be getting a jersey on game day anyway. Hood has the higher developmental potential anyway. Murphy has had three seasons to show something. He hasn't. Every team has their preseason/training camp all-stars. He's probably the Bills'.

Why is it that when our offense gets a good OC, and starts to look good, our defense goes to poo?

The D hasn't gone to poo, it just hasn't improved. We weren't scheming, Short and Poe played very few snaps, and Peppers was chilling on the sidelines in street clothes.

It's probably gonna be a repeat of last year. We're going to have to sellout and blitz like crazy in a desperate attempt to mask our porous secondary. Yeah, we're going to give up some chunk plays and yeah, people are going to scream that we're putting our DBs on an island, but we've heavily invested in our front seven. We're going to have to lean on them. If we rush four and play coverage, we're gonna get torched.

I know everybody loves Eric Washington, but it shouldn't be forgotten that this is his rookie season as a coordinator.

even if he ultimately becomes one of the best in the business, there's bound to be some growing pains early on.

And this was just a preseason game against the bills. Imagine how much more difficult a regular season game against the Saints is going to be.

Gonna have to blitz again like crazy. Lord help us in those times when it doesn’t get there

That was very shaky.

It can work, but you're not going to get home every time. It's also easier to scheme against, and more susceptible to being fatigued.

Same story as last year. It was a pretty much a sack or a completion. But if we hadn't done all that blitzing, honestly we would've simply gotten less sacks and given up more completions. We couldn't cover anything and from what I saw tonight, I can't foresee that changing this year. We need to get Jackson and Gaulden out there with the starters and see what they can do with the big boys. There's no reason not to.

But you have to create pressure one way or the other when you can't cover. We can't cover. If you can't cover and you don't get home, you're going to get burned anyway. Might as well bring pressure.

I would rather have a good offense to start the year than defense given our coaching staff.

Rivera is a very good defensive coach, and I think our Front 7 will be good enough that we can scheme some to hide our deficiencies on the back end.

But yeah, I didnt think we could be worse than last year but early indications are not good.

Need to get Jackson and Gaulden a lot of reps. And definitely try to upgrade at cut time
