Help me pick a couple keepers...

So, I have two teams that I need to pick a keeper for.

Team 1, it is down to Julio or Kamara... Tough decision with both being Panthers rivals, but a decision has to be made. I'm leaning towards Kamara just because I think he'll be better in his second season. Julio has been my keeper for several years now because he's been consistent top 3 WR. It is a PPR league, so catches do count. I know Julio, on the surface, has worked out his ill deal with ATL in the past few weeks, so I don't know that there's anything indicating he won't play up to normal potential. His legs are a little older, though, so that scares me from a Fantasy standpoint.

Team 2, it is between CMC and Fournette. I am leaning towards CMC because, again, this one is a PPR league. And I'm being a homer.

I'm keeping Fournette over CMC.  Yes CMC's versatility is amazing in fantasy and especially PPR, but with that said, the Jags have a bad QB and literally just lost all of their receiving targets.  They're going to run LF all day.

Jones is over Kamara all day.  He's a bonafide WR 1 and IMO the only WR in the league that is guaranteed close to AB from a fantasy perspective when healthy.  Kamara will get an increased role but he'll also be splitting carries in games 5-16 and the defenses will be more keen on trying to stop them.  If you're deciding between Jones and Kamara though that begs the question who your other keepers are though cause Kamara would be higher than a lot of other guys

On each team, we only get to keep 1 player overall... The rest of the roster is sent back to the pool.

I just worry about Julio's mental state. I feel like their agreement might have still been somewhat reluctant, and the fact that he was acting up to begin with makes me question his heart a bit. Kamara is more appealing in that I think he will also be a little more consistent/reliable with his points rather than exploiting bad secondaries/roller coaster-ing like a WR will.

I was actually thinking the same about LF vs. CMC, but CMC's draw is the homerism. I think you're right about LF's increased role, too.

Thanks!

So, the Jags are behind in every game, with no passing game, so they are gonna run the ball?

268 attempts 1040 yards 9 TD, 36 REC 302 YD 1 TD

this is a team that made the AFC championship mind you. they run the ball and play defense. I didn't say they were going to be behind in every game.  You'd be hard pressed to find that or a bad LF game last year at all.

go with your gut. I read this and thought Kamara and McCaff as well. Those are the two I would probably keep. but that's tough to go against Julio. He is the best WR in the league when he is healthy, IMO.

I have a feeling that Kamara could have a down year, but he is gonna get the rock and be the only back for 4 weeks. Based off last year he looks like he is gonna be a solid RB. Cant go wrong with Julio either so either way you are in good shape. Looks like you are good in either situation so thats always a good problem to have.

something else to consider - Kamara might make it back around to you once the picks start, I doubt Julio will.

I would lean toward Kamara over Jones. While Jones definitely has the ability to be a fantasy game changer, it's hard to overlook the dominance Kamara showed on the field and on the stat sheet week to week, even while splitting carries. I'd rather have 20 points per week consistently than a 7 or 8 point week followed by a 45.

  • 2 weeks later...

I ended up keeping Kamara on that one team, and I forgot the other team had Aaron Rodgers. I kept Rogers.

Julio didn't make it back to me on the Kamara team, but I think I got a solid unit in a ten team league.

QB:
Brees
Watson (will be my starter most weeks)

RB:
Kamara
McCaffrey
Royce Freeman
McKinnon (last pick autodrafted, lol... got a waiver claim in for Conner out of Pittsburgh or CJ Anderson

WR:
Davante Adams
Brandin Cooks
Corey Davis
DJ Moore
Jordy Nelson
Kenny Stills

TE:
Kyle Rudolph

D:
Rams

K:
Justin Tucker

My other team ended up like this:

QB:
Rodgers
Rivers

RB:
Howard
Drake
Burkhead
Morris
Penny

WR:
Hopkins
Thielen
Jones Jr.
Jeffrey
Fuller

TE:
Reed

D:
Texans

K:
Gould

that first team is pretty good. your WR depth is good but no bonafide definite fantasy studs, but plenty of production. royce freeman could take over the 1 spot and be a kareem hunt type stud once ingram comes back...again this is why i would have gone julio, but that's a nice roster either way.

the second team is pretty much the exact opposite need your WR to hold up the running backs and def need your TE to stay healthy.  nice job though

    • First off, my memory is faulty and so I should remember you. Anyways, welcome back. Having been around here since 2004/2005, I do have to say all these hot takes are not necessary new. I still very much remember all the constant complaints about Jake Delhomme. How he was too inaccurate, fumbled the ball too often, threw bad interceptions, and how Steve Smith deserved a better QB. How this franchise needed to replace Jake for someone better because he dragged everyone down. We even had names for Jake defenders; Blind Delhomme Jock Sniffers (BDJS). That one thread about Chris Weinke over Jake Delhomme because Weinke threw for 423 Yards but only scoring 13 points remains the worst hot takes I've ever seen around here. So to me, it feels like history repeating itself again and I don't feel like getting that much involved in flame wars like I used to. I am more of a sit back and see what the players/team does type of person. And even then, yes, there are so many moving parts that it's not as easy to pinpoint the core issues, especially when you're not inside the building and know every single detail.  And yes, I think even way back then, I hated how overvalued the QB position was and it hasn't gotten much better. It's to where my philosophy has shifted to where if you can't win a SB with a QB on their rookie contract, you might as well get another one. Otherwise, you have to give that QB so much money that the rest of the roster suffers and your window becomes quite narrow.  That's why I'm skeptical that Mahomes/Burrow/Jackson/Allen will win more than one or two SB's between them. None of them look as invisible as they did a few years ago and that's because their targets are much inferior and/or they are getting more roughed up behind a worse O-line.
    • Haha I was still off was thinking of mac jones he has done extremely well this year with basically no weopons as all the 49ers are hurt except for mcaffrey but he is playing slow this year for some reason.
