Mobility doesn't mean much if the guy follows up escaping pressure by throwing a bad pass.

Gilbert was definitely the better passer of the two.

Not really.  The only thing Gilbert had on Heinicke as a passer was a stronger arm.  not really a fan of either though.  Really hope we bring someone else in.

Gilbert was way better at ball placement.

Maybe when things are perfect, but how often does that happen?  Especially with this OL.  But even then, I think their placement is pretty similar.

Doesn't really matter though since I don't think either are NFL quality QB's (maybe 3rd string, at best).  The most we could hope for is they could come in and hand the ball off, but I wouldn't trust either to actually lead the team if Cam goes down...even if it's just for a short time.

Happens enough in preseason to be noticeable.

I do agree that we don't have much hope if Newton goes down, though on that front I feel a lot better with Turner at OC than I did with Shula. Turner can make better adjustments.

Limited time? Heinicke played nearly the whole first half. Gilbert got like two series. He’s the one with limited time and he only had a turnover this preseason because was strip-sacked thanks to Blaine Causell. I’d love to know how that constitutes “really struggling,” though. He had a dump-off that was an early give-up on a third down. That’s about the only negative I saw. Heinicke continued showing off his pocket mobility but he also badly, badly missed on several throws.

If you’re gonna ask me to be better, hold yourself to the same standard.

Gilbert had plenty of time to show he holds the ball too long and misses on throws.  Its as simple as 7 points to 3 when Allen came in the game. Also, Heinicke had what was determined a gaudy 102 QBR in the preseason.  Still haven’t heard how you know Heinicke is Norv ‘s boy.

That we can agree on.  He's also better at masking weaknesses.

After 3 preseason games (when they got fairly equal snaps), Gilbert and Heinicke's QB ratings were separated by one tenth of a point. And Gilbert had more touchdown passes, despite playing with the 3rd string more often. Heinicke missed short, medium and long throws and anyone who understands ball placement on passes knows that, too.I wish him the best because I want us to win but the coaches chose a weaker armed passer to be the backup QB.

As far as your other question, use what I thought was common sense. Where was Heinicke? Minnesota. Where was Norv? Minnesota. What a coincidence that we'd have a guy who was a backup at the same stop as the new OC. I have said before that we chose a weaker armed passer because he fits Norv's plays better. Otherwise, why bring him in?

They did play fairly close, but Gilbert missed throws as well slingshotting the ball past receivers with his “super strong” arm.  Also, Gilbert had plays with Curtis Samuel & DJ Moore all preseason so swing & a miss with the whole third string argument.

As long as Heinicke can throw the deep out his arm is plenty strong enough.  Again calling Heinicke Norv’s boy was ridiculous.  He was 3rd string then waived/injured in two years.  Hardly seemed like bosom buddies.  Yeah, he knew him, but quit acting like Gilbert got the outright shaft and the fix was in before camp started.
