Who do we keep on the Dline?

What's your take on this? Obviously they have to replace quite a few bodies. Peppers will retire, Mario is the best pass rusher they have, but getting on in age. Horton a JAG, Efe has potential. Love is serviceable but still a JAG. KK is a mystery, has regressed big time. Poe was a bad signing. All the rest are below avg.

So what do they do? Can't retool the whole Dline. Guys to build around? What do you think?

I would have liked to have fired Washington already to see if the d line and the rest of the defense improved at all but that isn't going to happen now.

Make Mario a pass rush specialist and cut everyone else. Pretty much need a completely new D line imo which fuging sucks. Every draft pick we have invested into the line the past 5 years was pretty much a bust / one year wonder.

Get a coach who will open up the offense and just accept the defense sucks. That is what the NFL wants now anyways so may as well get with the times.

and yes, I will have Pep back for another year if he wants back.

Mario for sure. Hes not elite but he's still pretty darn good and a very good value in terms of cap hit for his production.

Not enough cap savings IMO to justify cutting Short (only $5M). Gotta hope he can bounce back. Hopefully at the minimum with a new DC if not all new coaching staff. Same story for Poe (only $3M in cap savings).

Love will be a FA and he'll be 33. He may choose to retire or if we clean house he may choose to simply go elsewhere. He's a guy I'd like to hang onto. He's a solid rotational guy and he'd be relatively cheap.

Horton is a solid rotational DE and at a $1.3M cap hit it's a no brainer to bring him back.

Peppers will almost certainly retire. I'm not sure if any of the young DEs are NFL caliber. Butler is a bust. But there's no cap savings in cutting him. I'd float him out there to see if anyone would give us something (anything) for him. If so, I'd deal him. If not, bring him to camp and hope it finally clicks for him. Maybe a coaching shakeup would help.

So basically, IMO the only locks are Addison, Short, Poe, and Horton. We desperately need an infusion of young DL talent and there's ample room on the roster to accommodate them.

I just wish that Ron would grow a pair and takeover defensive play calling duties and let Washington go back to focusing on the DL. Maybe the DL would pickup with Washington back with them and surely defensive play calling would improve under Rivera.
