I believe that with the way our defense was playing you are probably right.  Having a guy who can throw the ball better than 15 yards is always a huge help.

As far as I've been able to see Heineke throws a pretty nice pass.  THROWING would be the least of his worries.  REACTING to the inevitable pass rush deluge due to our poo OL would be the greatest concern.

Oh, and also Ron Rivera and Norv (and Shula before him) live and die by the "threat" of the read option.  No Cam, no "threat".  Gosh oh golly they might have to WORK HARDER to game-plan in that case than their normal "Save me Cam!"

Season is shot...this would give us a chance to see if Hinieke is groomworthy or not.

Regardless if u wanna sign Cam long term or hope to trade him...can’t do either without him healthy

Giving the kid a chance to play can only help us.

1. It gives us some valuable on field experience with starters something a back up rarely gets in preseason.

2. It gives us some trading power for him or (cough cough gag gag) Cam if he does well.

3. If he loses than our draft position will be much higher.

4. If he is absolutely terrible than we have to look for another back up.

from what I saw in preseason action he is pretty good at throwing the ball away if he is going to get sacked.  Better than Cam at that.  Cam always thinks he can get away .

    • *EVERY* NFL game is aired on a local broadcast channel in each participating team's market - even if the primary national coverage is on a paid channel (ESPN, Netflix, Amazon, Peacock) For those outside the primary Charlotte or Tampa viewing areas, then ESPN may (or may not) be your only option (check local listings to confirm).   Example: Atlanta ABC is airing the game, even though it's outside those local viewing areas
    • Necas didn't want to be here... What did you want them to do with Mikko... Let him walk for free and ruin half a season???
    • Whole point of bringing in Miller was to pair him with Slavin to cover up his defense... Injuries haven't allowed that to happen.  Which has a trickle down effect on the other pairings So what should be  Slavin/Miller Walker/Chatfield  Nikishin/Ghost   Has been Walker/Miller Nikishin/Chatfield  Some fresh bodies from the AHL   On top of that goalie play has been mostly a miss with Freddie in net and the defense in front of the goalies has been mostly trash. We probably won't get the answer to the Miller Slavin question this season (if the pairing can work at all)  Only thing can hope for is the defense to get and stay healthy and for the front office to go find a goalie and another center.
