If Matt Moore wants to play in the NFL at a higher level...

... he's going to have to improve his arm strength somehow. To say he has average arm strength is being extremely kind.

Anybody know if this is something our strength and conditioning coaches can help much with?

And before the inevitable "but, pennington" responses come, let me ask you, how many other weak armed QBs have had success recently?

If all he's asked to do is run screens, smokes, and dumps then it doesn't matter.;)

I know you mean at a high level, which I don't believe he'll ever achieve, but yeah... I believe he or Feely could have done enough to beat the Bills today.

No, I mean higher level.

He showed some success in the dink and dunk game in 2007, but the few shots he took downfield were lofts. He's got to be able to fire some shots on a rope in the vertical passing game to be successful.

Matt's arm is very strong, anyone who watched the preseason would know this. He made some mistakes but then again he was throwing to WR's who are no longer on this team. We was working with the 3rd string O-line, RB and WR's so it's not like he had what Jake had to work with. Next week would be a great game to get Matt Moore started because the Cards are allowing a ton of passing yards.

distance and velocity in almost every case has less to do with "popped out 'ceps" and more to do with form and footwork.

throwing a football is basically the same motion as serving a tennis ball. yeah, the guys spend time in the weight room, but generally you increase your speed and distance with coaching and better form.

    • I think he's gone, and rightfully so, if he turns in another losing record. The "talented roster," regardless of how true or not, is a double-edged sword. If the roster is so much improved now from 202X then why are you still producing losing seasons? On one hand, maybe that's what needs to happen. Have the GM hire the new coach, and then have the new coach pick his guy to run his system. That is typically how it works in the NFL. Not the forced inheritance deal we have had in place.
    • Hinging on Brooks to be our spark...be good if it happens... but not holding my breath....RB next draft. Morgan gambled...it would be a 2 year payoff if thing happened.
    • Only way Canales is fired is if we are attrocious everywhere....  defense /special teams and offense..  There are enough "questions" on if BY9 is the guy that ownership wouldn't fire the coach for "just" mid qb play.  Especially with as talented a roster that has played "well enough" to win some tough football games and hang in there against the top tier of the NFL ...(mostly).   Now total team suckage..yeah .. but I don't see that happening.
