I'm going to get laughed at for this, but I'd take Tre Boston back. He's improved quite a bit since he left and is a good coverage safety who can tackle, along with only being 27-28 at season start.

He's going to come cheaper than a lot of the other guys mentioned so far and that will mean something when it comes to putting money into other places of need. He'd probably work in the $2 mill/year range and that's a lot more affordable than top end players. (He worked on a $1.5 million deal with the Cards last season and was a big part of their defense.)

Nope, no laugher here watchedhim with La and with the cards, dude has improved as a player since leaving, Idk what it is about this board and it’s belief that developing players isn’t possible but he’s progressed as player the last 3 years, wanted to sign him last year.

Would have much rather had Boston signed for 3 years than Reid. And probably at less than half the price.

Reid grew on me as a SS, although I'd like to see him wrap up more tackles than just load up to knock the crap out of a guy. Boston as a FS isn't a bad pairing with him and could be just the ticket for our backfield. He isn't Ed Reed, but he's pretty darn decent with plenty of experience and mileage left... and that's saying something.

The way Reid is used is the key to me. If they expect him to still line up at FS, and cover deep, he’s being set up to fail. He can be an asset if you stick to his strengths. Stay within 10-15 yds of the LOS. Cover TEs and RBs. Not WRs.

Which brings me to my issue with Reid, or his signing. Not just him. I feel the same about Landon Collins. Their issues in coverage will get exposed. I just can’t pay that much for a player that is a liability in the most important job requirement. Keep them at SS and some LB on 3rd downs. I would have signed Boston to play SS or sign Boston and Amos as true “interchangeable Safeties” who can both cover.  At maybe 12M combined. Huge upgrade at both positions and would eliminate Safety as a need in the draft.

Just thought we jumped the gun at a position that was in a downturn salary wise. With many options available. Not really bad if they use him right. But I just think we will look back and wished we waited.

I think that it still comes down to the safety being the least important position on defense. Upgrades at DE will help and there's a lot of questions about how we proceed at LB without TD. I just don't want to see us dumping a lot of money into safeties when it really needs to go elsewhere.
