There was a time when (and God, do I hate them) the Dallas Cowgirls said enough bad play was enough for Drew Bledsoe. The guy had a decent career, went to a super bowl and lost, and had up and down seasons after that (sound familiar). They finally realized what needed to be done, and they made the change to Tony Romo. He came out like gang busters. I'm not saying that the same formula will work here, but it could. We have plenty of great components to this team, and I hate to see frustration boil to the point we may jeopardize the spark they bring week in and week out. Bledsoe reached a point where he was just done, you could tell with his bad throws, getting sacked, and I think his team gave up on him, but they rallied around the un-proven youngster.

Is this Panthers team ready to rally around a young guy looking for his opportunity? The time is now.

(And yes, I realize that Romo is not an MVP now and he can't win a playoff game, but I wasn't going THAT far with my analogy.)

i've thought about this a good bit as well. as badly as romo has been in playoff chances and as much of a choke artist as he is, he still gave/gives the cowboys a whole lot more chance to take it all the way than bledsoe did.

bledsoe was the prove commodity with a past history of success and parcells decided to go with an unknown because he saw that bledsoe was on the downside of his career and wanted to look forward instead of backward. to that point romo had shown the league nothing.

it was a risk but it was the right call.

i remember bledsoe being in another situation a few years before that where he, being the established vet, was pretty well entrenched in his job and after an injury happened another very unknown commodity was given a chance. one who was drafted but a late round flier. brady did ok.

is moore going to be a romo or a brady? who knows? most likely he won't be a brady but unless he is given a chance, we will never really know.

jake shouldn't have succeeded being an undrafted player and spending years riding the pine as a 3rd backup to a sucky QB on a bad team and then being sent to europe. he was given a chance and he went to a superbowl his first year.

kurt warner was bagging groceries and playing arena football before being sent to europe as an old (in football years) man. he shouldn't have been given a chance because he hadn't shown the league anything but, once he was given a chance, he did pretty well.

i don't expect moore to be great. i just know that unless he is given a real opportunity, we may never know.

i do know that we can't keep going in this direction with this same cast. something has to change and there is nothing that jake is doing that makes me feel he is worth another chance.

i don't care what jake has done in the past. none of that matters now. all that matters is that he hasn't been able to get the job done.

you try to move forward or you are sure to fall behind.

Remember, Moore is a free agent next year. If Moore was the savior and say we go 9 -1 with him and then make a playoff run what we have done, because of the Jake contract, is create a situation where we have 2 QB's with HUGE contracts because Moore will get paid by someone if he plays at the Tom Brady level that everyone is fantasizing. So while it would be technically good to have this problem, it would be a nightmare for the salary cap. What could save us if this crazy fantasy happened would be an uncapped year next year.

Does John Fox historically really show a tendency to keep veteran quarterbacks in the starting position longer than he feels is necessary?

Not just QBs, honestly (detailed elsewhere).

That's why I'm not sure I buy the notion that Moore coming in and doing well would be a knock on Fox. It wouldn't tell us anything we didn't already know.

Mr. Scot, I still can't get over this nagging idea that Fox will still want Jake to play next year despite the fact moore has proven to be much better. What are your thoughts on this?

It would be an incredibly difficult thing to justify.

Unfortunately, that doesn't mean it won't happen :sosp:

If Moore had the ability to lead our team he would have been inserted weeks ago. Maybe the int's could just be a given in Fox's mind but the leadership can't be instilled with Moore or Feeley?

It looks as though I was way wrong, just wish this would have been proven wrong along time ago. :D

Who starts at QB week 1 next year is the ultimate test as to whether fox puts his loyalty above his powers of reasoning.

Fox has shown more loyalty to Jake than to any other player.

Jake has given more good reasons to stay off the field than any panthers player in years (nick hayden perhaps?).

      I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.

      Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.

      Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
