Interesting Stat -- 2018 vs 2019 Pre-Season QB Pressure*

A lot of times in pre-season you hear a lot of fans say take it with a grain of salt, however in many cases you can identify some things to be excited about and others to worry about, one thing that stood out last pre-season was the fact that we got very little pressure on opposing QBs (Bills, Dolphins, Patriots, Steelers)

I saw a stat last night that helped with this - (I can't find the tweet) but long story short we totaled (5) sacks in those 4 pre-season games.

As of last night we already have 5 (Burns 2, Haynes 2, Kunaszyk 1) -- https://www.espn.com/nfl/boxscore?gameId=401128176

So while my excitement and expectations are tempered, it was nice to see us get after the QB again.

I think a lot of people forgot about Marquis because he was a 4th rounder that didn't play too often, and was also very undersized for 4-3 DE (6'2'' / 235) -- we've seen several interviews, and if you follow college and the NFL close enough you know there are very few all around 4-3 DE's coming into the NFL anymore due to the college game be spread based, you need ''smaller big'' guys if you will that can run.

Insert Haynes, and Burns, isolate them wide, have the interior OL eat the space, and let them work. I personally cannot wait to see 1st team defense some next week, and up in NE for the 3rd game. You pair the edge rotation we have with KK, and GMC inside, there is some real reason to be encouraged about our ability to get to the quarterback.

This also makes the secondary that much more interesting, JB, DJ, TB, & ER and whoever the nickel is should have some decent opportunities to make plays.

QBs are gonna be talking out of their butts Little Giants style this year. They won't know what hit em. Speed coming from every angle

Once we get Poe, KK and McCoy in there wrecking the O-Line on every play, our OLB's are really really going to eat.  Assuming we dont get gashed in the run game, and our secondary can hold up, this is at least a Top 5 defense.  With Ron calling the plays the sky is the limit.  This team is going to be DANGEROUS on both sides of the ball.  I cannot wait for the regular season to start!

I agree the game with New England will tell us a bunch. They game plan every game and push to win. Should be a great test in New England. Seems Cam has done pretty well in the past in Foxboro.

    • Not in same league. Caldwell just hit a 10.00 on the RAS. 2nd out of 3830 from 1987 onward.  https://x.com/MathBomb/status/2027885023387349047 Yeah I mean Louis had a sub 9.00 RAS. Still very very good, no doubt. Louis is small, no 2 ways about it. He is likely a sub package lb in nickel packages or specialized WLB. Be fine ST gunner to start for sure. 6 foot flat and 220lb is pushing it for a starting LB. At 10 to 20lbs less than the other LBs he'd better be closer to the top in most timed drills. He's gonna be challenged when some of the wrs in the class can matchup bigger stronger faster, much less TE in the run game.  Yeah instinct matter and he has them, but that size is a massive red flag compared to many of the other LBS in this class.    Rodriguez is the LB that really climbed this week from a pure grit guy to great flash with athleticism people wrote off cause he was a QB at first at UVA. 18.4mph in the backpedal. Production the last 2 years were great. I'd be thrilled with him as the future mike.   Hill likely moved out of 51 and into the top 45 picks ( Ravens at 45 I can't imagine don't bite if he makes it there). Honestly Hill imo is a 1st rounder and I'd be ok with him as he fits the MLB we have missed the last few years. People would crow it's a reach but he's top 30 all-time I'm RAS for a LB at 9.9+ . Plus he was big time in big games when he was healthy. And that br a big check: meds.
    • Miller, Melo, Coby, Moose, and Bridges all on the floor at the same time must be a nightmare for defenses lol. Switch one out for Kon and still a nightmare. Coby really does bring a true 6th man value and looks like he could start if Melo was out after only a few games of getting his feet wet.
