Will Cam ever be mentioned in the same breath as...:

Fwiw someone on reddit asked if Cam was HOF worthy to an unbiased sample, i.e not a message board of Panthers fans, and the overwhelming consensus was that Cam is not close to HoF at this time:

You can read the thoughts of fans of the other 31 teams that better reflect the overall mindset of the public at large.

Pretty unfair to say that.  The year before we drafted Cam, how many Read Option plays did we run?  How many designed QB runs?

We certainly were willing to adjust our offense to play to Cam's strengths.  Could a different coaching staff, once Chud was gone, have done better with Cam?  Sure, probably.  How different would Cam's career have been with Norv as his OC since early on?  Fair to say it would have been pretty different.

I just can't say we didn't change our playbook to suit Cam, because we definitely did.

It was like halfway though.  It worked really well then the next drive they would come out in I-formation and go three and out because the media said you aren't allowed to run a college offense in the pros.  I know they were trying to balance his workload, but it didn’t matter.  Probably safer to have Cam attack the line of scrimmage then get blindsided on a poo play action from under center.

I found some interesting, non biased, articles regarding that notion of Cam making it to the HoF.

He has some work to do but it's not a reality that will not happen, it just depends on whether he gets the opportunity to play for a team that utilizes his legs AND his arm as well as protecting him whether it is us or elsewhere.

I guess this thread is just about QB's of color, so on that note, Russ is better than any on the list, mainly because of consistency and lack of injuries.  He is pocket and running QB.  Very hard to defend, very hard to see with his small stature.  The rest are young and if they can avoid injuries, all will be great.  Cam's career has been a bit of a roller coaster.  Very dynamic for some periods and then a couple down years, but back up, then down again.  This is the only thing that will hamper his place.  The down years have a lot to do with the continued sorry Olines and injuries

Just so happens all the good young qbs are not white....I think these guys are all a step above white quarterbacks you would say are young and good.  Possibly with the exception of Dak, but he has been pretty good.

I think its high past time to recognize there is only one race and that is the human race, people put too much emphasis on color.

All of these HUMAN QB's have been pretty good.

New question....was Cam as good as Lamar is right now at any point in his career?

Tough to answer.  A ton of QBs lately have been able to look like the next big HOFer during some lengthy stretches early in their career (think Nick Foles, Colin Kaep, Jared Goff, etc) but it seems the league is able to kind of "figure" these guys out.

Guys like Brady, Brees and Rodgers don't really get figured out.  You hope to god you can sack them or force bad decisions.

Is Lamar Jackson a piece of a system that can be figured out?

I think we find out next year.

Just a guess, as I cracked my crystal ball when I threw it against the wall after a certain Super Bowl.

Cam may go down as one of those QBs who "might have 'been a contenda' on a more talented team."  Picture a modern-day Randall Cunningham: a guy people scratch their heads about wondering what sort of career he would have had with more offensive talent around him.

Who knows what the discussion would be had Shula had the revolutionary thought "maybe we need to have a few wrinkles ready to show for our two weeks of preparation" in the game that caused me to crack my crystal ball.

As for the OP list, only Wilson is far enough along to make a comparison.  If Wilson can win a championship or keep them in the running in the post-Legion of Doom era, his stock goes up.

The jury is still out on the rest, other than maybe Dak.  I will say this for Prescott: he showed a lot coming back strong after a sophomore slump, when a good number of Cowboys faithful wanted him run out of town.
